BB&T Fundraising Program
Hello Western Wildcat Band Parents,

Here is ALL of the information needed for the BB&T Center Individual Fundraising Opportunity, a great way to meet your child's Fair Share obligation without digging into your family's savings. (And with college looming in a few short years, we all could use a little extra help with our finances!) Please follow the instructions and reserve your training spot for one of the available dates posted below. You CAN NOT work at BB&T until AFTER you have attended and completed the alcohol training session! The sessions are only offered in the fall so please sign up now so you can "cash in" on this amazing opportunity later. Please note- you are not obligated to work by attending an alcohol training session, but you absolutely will not be able to take advantage of this great program without the training, so if you are on the fence about it, take the training now and decide later.

Directions:
1. Submit your email address to Kim at  western.bandparent@gmail.com to be placed on the BB&T mailing list.
2. Choose ONE of the training dates you (and/or adult friends/family) wish to attend and forward your choice to Kim
3. When you request a training date, your confirmation email will include an Individual Volunteer Agreement form. Please sign it and return it to Kim. Your confirmation email will also include a map of BB&T and parking instructions.
4. Attend training on your scheduled date; please note that you MUST be in your seat on time or you will not be allowed into the session!
5. Notify Kim at western.bandparent@gmail.com once you have completed your training session.
6. Look for the emails with the upcoming booth dates and sign up!

What is the BB&T Individual Fundraising Opportunity???

Centerplate runs the concession stands at BB&T Center and offers non-profit groups with 501c3 status the opportunity to raise funds by staffing and running stands during Florida Panthers games and other events.  BB&T provides all of the training and materials, you only need to bring your smile and some dedication. With other fundraisers, there are typically upfront expenses that must be covered before making any commissions; BB&T takes care of those expenses so it is a win-win for all concerned. This is an individual fundraising opportunity because the money earned goes to cover YOUR child's Fair Share obligation, State competition field trip costs, and any other expenses involving the band. You will not receive any money directly, it will be credited to your child's account with the band booster organization, meaning you won't be asked to cover that amount because BB&T has covered it for you.

Training

Training is required of all group participants.  All volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer and must go through a TIPS or Responsible Vendors training. Following initial training, there is an introduction to Centerplate's policies, procedures, and expectations.  Training ends with a tour of the BB&T Center and a concession stand and an overview of what to expect when working. Training Class starts at 6pm. By 6:15pm security will no longer allow anyone to come up to the class so please make sure to arrive on time!

Staffing

BB&T has two stand sizes, either 7 points of sale (cash registers) or 9 points of sale; as a fairly new group, we will always be assigned a booth with 9 registers.  Each stand also requires two leaders, a Stand Leader who manages the inventory and oversees the stand functioning and a Cash Leader who manages the cash functions and assists the stand leader.  The stand also requires additional staff to provide support functions, these positions are backups or prep.  So in our nine-line stand, for example, the total staff would be 14 volunteers (9 cashiers + 2 leaders + 3 backups or prep = 14 volunteers).

  • 7 register stand = 12 volunteers (2 leaders + 7 cashiers + 3 backups/prep/runners)
  • 9 register stand = 14 volunteers (2 leaders + 9 cashiers  + 3 backups/prep/runners)

BB&T will supply each stand with cooks and a Centerplate supervisor.

Will Our Group Sell Alcohol?

The answer is YES!!! All stands dispense beer and alcohol products.  Beer also makes up a significant portion of our revenue and take home amount. For this reason all of our volunteers must be 18 years old or older.  The only exception is if we are offered a "no-alcohol" event to work, such as the Jingle Ball or any religious concerts, but these opportunities are few and far between and frequently offered to the more experienced non-profit groups first.

How Much Will We Make?

We will make about 10% of net sales. If our net sales are $12,589.00, the take home is $1258.90 (minus a 1% insurance deductible). Each group is responsible for their own stand inventory and cash handling, meaning WE are responsible for any shortages. Using the prior example, if the net sales for the evening are $12,589.00 and our payment was $1258.90, but we were short $140 in cash and/or inventory our new take home total will be $1118.90 (minus 1% insurance deductible).  The NET amount will be divided evenly among each of the volunteers working the event and will be credited to your Individual Student Account once payment is received from BB&T. (A bonus for the inventory person and head cashier will be taken off the top since these positions involve more hours than the other jobs.)

The important thing to note is that different booths and different events at BB&T earn different amounts. If we can not reliably come up with 14 responsible adults to work our assigned dates, we will be stuck with the poorer performing booths, we will only be offered hockey games, and we will not earn very much per person. If, however, we can prove to the BB&T concessions manager that we are reliable, responsible, and we can staff our booths without any issues, we will move to the more lucrative booths, we will be offered the bigger events, and we will earn more money per person. MORE $$$ is our ultimate goal, but it takes a TEAM EFFORT on our part! We have to help each other out by volunteering as much as possible, making sure we hit our 14 person target for every date we are assigned. (There are also occasional opportunities to work as a "filler" for other groups that need help meeting their 14 person requirement; please let the BB&T liaison know if you are interested in this opportunity. If the other group works a better stand and makes more money, your "take" is also bigger!)

As for the work itself, it is easy and fun. The most difficult part is standing the whole time, typically about 6 hours for a hockey game, but other than that it is easy as pie. The Centerplate managers are supportive and helpful and we are able to take breaks during the events, plus we are there with other band boosters so it is a great way to get to know the parents of your child's friends. It's also fun to hear bits of the event, like the horns when the Panthers score a goal, as we work.

It's a team building exercise, for sure, and one that provides $$$, my favorite! :)

Call for Grant Writers!!

There are many grant opportunities for our band but we need someone with the know how to write the proposals. If you have these skills (or know someone who does) and you are willing to help out, please contact the board at western.bandparent@gmail.com. Thank you!

Fundraising 2017-2018

Our BB&T fundraisers are great at helping parents pay their fair share obligations, but additional funds beyond that are needed to support the band! If you have ideas for a great fundraiser or know of any potential sponsors please contact our Band Boosters President, Kim Schnitzius, at western.bandparent@gmail.com.
