The Wayland Stud

Versatility is our Aim

The Wayland Stud is situated in Hale on the western edge of the New Forest in Hampshire and was established in 1973 with the arrival of foundation stallion, Harry Bee of Danehurst (pic. left).

The idea was to breed first class New Forest ponies with the ability to compete in all equestrian disciplines, that could be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

A few years later, the opportunity to acquire a second stallion arose, Katric Capers, (pictured below) a pony who was already a champion in his own right who was to become our second foundation stallion.

Katric Capers sired some exceptional ponies over the years, most notably Wayland Cranberry, as well as Luckington Leo and many others, all of which have gone on to become champions in their own right.

Now, some 30 years on, we can safely say that the Wayland Stud is one of the most successful New Forest Pony studs in the country, breeding from proven bloodlines and producing top class ponies, both in temperament and performance ability. Our stallions have excellent conformation with superb temperaments and good manners. Furthermore, they have proven themselves in all disciplines and can regularly be seen out competing or hacking across the forest, either on their own or in company.
