The Abyssinian Banana is a dramatic, lush plant regularly featuring in tropical gardens.

It is very fast growing and will soon reach a height of around two meters in its first year.

Its leaves also grow very large and are best protected from the wind to stop them tearing and looking unsightly.

It will grow well outdoors in most temperate and warm climates and will thrive even better in warm, humid conditions.

It is advisable to bring the plant indoors during the winter months in the UK and most other European countries to protect it from frost.

The seeds are larger than those of the Musa banana varieties and the fruit is inedible as it is not a true banana like the Musa bananas.
