Commenced 21 October 2013
SPRA has launched this appeal to help pets, wildlife and other animals affected by the bushfires raging in NSW. All cases in need will be considered for assistance subject to funds available. Rescue groups and individuals in need will be considered. Priorities will be cases without access to other support. See below for the rescue groups we are helping.
Please dig deep to assist our efforts.

Golden Oldies Animal Rescue
Golden Oldies is a rescue organisation located in Mittagong. They rescue and re home older pets from Death Row at the pound. Gina who runs the group told us this morning that the fires were about 10 minutes away from her place. She has about 15 pets she is caring for. She humbly told us that she had been out helping residents get their pets to safety, and in the last few days had helped rescue 8 cats, 14 dogs, 3 ferrets and 2 parrots. When asked what would be the best way we could help her with her rescue efforts, she mentioned that she and other rescuers were going through a lot of petrol. Some Fuel cards would be a big help to her and other people rescuing pets and wildlife from the fires. We are currently investigating the potential for corporate support with some fuel cards.
PetFriends Vet Hospitals, Winmalee and Faulconbridge
Drs Chris Blair, Russel Bassett, Blake Britton, Gary Lai and Bronwyn Bonnette have all worked incredibly long hours caring for pets injured in the bushfires that have devastated the Springwood area of the Blue Mountains, especially the Winmalee area. The Hospital estimates that it has treated 350 pets, mainly for burns and smoke inhalation so far. Treatment has been made available for free to cats, dogs, and various other animals, even a goat!…and not only that, this incredible team of dedicated doctors and nurses have also established a Food Registry to provide free food to animals and their owners devastated by the bushfires. They estimate that 100 dogs and 200 cats will need help with emergency food supplies over the next 6 months as owners and pets struggle to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the bushfire crisis. They can only manage to do this with help from corporate and individual supporters.
Please help us to help this dedicated team of doctors and nurses to help as many animals as possible via a contribution to our Bushfire Appeal. A tax deductible cash donation to assist with emergency supplies would be logistically easiest. Alternatively, you can also purchase food donations at any Pet Care 2000 store in Sydney, and we will get your donation to them

CARE for Wildlife
CARE for Wildlife

CARE for Wildlife is a very small not-for-profit group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing and caring for Australian native wildlife in the Central West of NSW, Australia. They operate Monty's Rest Wildlife Refuge which is a a registered rehabilitation and release site where John and Sandra Lyle care for and rehabilitate native wildlife to be gradually (soft) released back into the wild . They would regularly go through 20kg of marsupial formula every three weeks at a cost of $395.00 each time. This cost has increased now due to the extra animals coming into care from the Bushfire crisis.
They are caring for many Orphaned and Injured Wildlife that have come into care due to the massive bush fires in New South Wales. John is currently caring for 1 adult kangaroo, 1 wombat and 14 joeys. The joeys fell out of their mothers pouches when they were trying to escape from the fires. They only weigh 3-5kgs and are affected by various injuries. He will keep them until they are recovered and released. He expects more animals in the coming weeks once they can get into the fire affected areas to look for more survivors.
January 2014 - John advised..We actually have 19 Babies in care right now. One that just came in from another carer was rescued at Spring wood and had burnt feet, tail and ears.
He has made a complete recovery. He is the small one on the left in the top 2 photos. Its my job now to raise him until he can be released back into the wild.
Mudgee Wildlife Carers
Donna and husband Warren have each been rescuing and caring for wildlife for more than 20 years. They live near Lithgow. They took in about 30 possums from the fires, including possums from one of the WIRES carers who lost her home in the Mt Victoria bushfires, sadly, along with some of her animals too. They currently have 17 possums and 1 Swamp Wallaby in care. They expect their numbers to rise once they are able to go in search of animals surviving the bushfires. Their possums have suffered terrible burns. Their animals need their wounds treated and bandages changed several times a day. It is a heart breaking job. They need urgent help and lots of it with medical supplies and a fuel card to help them with rescues. They estimate it will cost them $300-$400 per month in fuel to go out in search of wildlife survivors of the bushfires.
