Springwest English Springers Spaniels - CKC Registered (Canada)

Springwest English Springer Spaniels   (Canada)

Welcome to Springwest English Springer Spaniels.  We would like to thank you for taking the time to browse our site.  This site was built to show case our wonderful springers.

My husband and I bought our first show springer over 30 years ago from a breeder in Victoria, BC.  Showing Riley was a new experience for us, and when Riley became a Canadian champion at the age of 9 months we were hooked.  We love this breed and have met many wonderful people through these georgous dogs.

Springwest ESS is located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.  We live in the Cowichan Valley which is centrally located between Victoria and Nanaimo.  The Cowichan valley offers a wonderful place to raise a family, animals and we have tourists coming here from all places in the world.  We have many famous First Nation artists, that are known for their totem poles, finely crafted silver and gold jewerly, Cowichan Indian Sweaters and of course their famous hospitality.  There are great trails to walk, mountains to climb, rivers, lakes to fish or to hang out to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

At Springwest we are a small kennel and we breed occassionaly. All our springers have their hips OFA, eyes cerf annually, all health checks are done before they are bred.  All our puppies are raised in our home and are well socilized, they are CKC registered, dewclaws removed, tails docked, 1st and 2nd shots, tattooed, wormed, eyes cerfed.  All our puppies are sold on a non-breeding contract and must be spayed or neutured before the age of 6 mths.

What do we feed our dogs?
Our dogs are fed on Premium dog kibble Natures Domain  combined with sardines, meat and we give them meat bones from the butcher shop.

Keeping your springer in top healthy condition is vital, even if they are pets!! I have also found some products that contain dyes in the food tend to stain my dogs a reddish colour under the chin, between the toes, under the arms and crotch area. It is important to make sure that the foods you feed your Springer DO NOT contain dyes. Make sure the food is natural and you know what is in it (you would not feed dyes to your children!). Remember, like humans, not all dogs are the same and need to be considered on an individual basis.

What do we groom our Springers with?
We love to use Wal shampoo and conditioners, between shows we use Main and Tail (yes I said it and it really works) diluted and it goes a long way, making the coats soft and easy to work with. We also use Main and Tail leave in conditioner.

Educating Children!
Our Springers are very much apart of our family. They are raised with our children and grandchildren who are taught to respect the dogs. When at dogs shows, our children and grandchildren have learned to approach dog owners first to seek permission before approaching a dog and have learned the correct way of introducing themselves to the dog. I have found this type of dog education and awareness regardless of being a child or adult is important in public environments, especially where unknown dogs may be around. Not all dogs like children for one reason or another and prevention is better than cure - Accidents can be
avoided! However, the English Springer Spaniel breed is a loving, loyal and energetic dog who can tolerate quite a lot of play!!!
