Tamper Train parked up at Lichfield City Station

Posted by ROB on December 4, 2010 at 6:16 PM

An Amey Plc balast/ rail tamper train was spotted doubled up and parked on the far siding (diesel only track) at Lichfield City Station on Thursday December 2nd.

Tampers are a vital piece of equipment used to ensure the correct position of rail tracks. Over time regular usage of the tracks results in movement and renewed tracks may need repositioning. Tampers travel lift and re-align rail tracks to ensure that as trains pass over them their passengers have a smooth, comfortable and safe journey.
