IMPORTANT!!! This year I'm going to close down shop for a month at a time, a couple times this year. Right now it looks like Southern Moon Creations will close during April, July and October. Please note that if you placed an order before my shop closes you will still get your orders.
Why am I doing this? One major reason is that I love my kiddos and think that they occasionally like to get to play with mommy. Another reason is this; it's getting too big. I've been at this for about six year and with each new year the percentage of orders per month grows. I used to be able to count of January and February being down time months where I'd be able to experiment and come up with news items. Now those months are so busy that there is no down time, which is realyl sad because those were my only two vacation months out of the year.
I greatly enjoy making cosplay accessories and helping people to better complete their outfits and I'm truly, truly thankful for all the business I've received. I never, in my wildest imagination, thought that I'd get to do this and be able to be a part of so many things. I even, unknowingly, had my work seen by my favorite mangaka, Naoko Takeuchi, which just about reduced me to a geek puddle on the floor beneath my chair.
But it's still just me who works on all the orders. And at very limited times. I never know when one of my kiddos is going to get sick, or when it's going to be me who gets sick or if this is going to be a month where the damn plaster doesn't want to set right. If this year continues to follow the trend that I've seen over the past six years then I find myself very worried about what will happen if any of that happens during a high demand month? And what if it gets to be so much that I burn myself out and no longer want to make accessories any more?
So the answer seems to be to shut down for a month at a time, a few times this year. I tried this for October last year and it went beautifully. My goal is to close a month before the big convention/holiday events, giving me enough time to get the order out for those who made sure to order ahead of time. This also cuts down on my much correspondence I have to have with those who didn't and won't accept my refusal to make their orders.
If there is an event you have that you'd like to have accessories for pleas try to order as early as possible. I do not accept bribes. I will not commit to need by dates that I've been informed of after an order is placed.
Thanks to all for your patience!
