My (Sandy) previous wife Cheryl and I grew up, married and lived in Painesville, Ohio. I was the owner/operator of Spangler Electric and did mostly commercial and industrial wiring for almost 20 years. Cheryl was a RN and worked in a Cardiac Cath Lab for 14 of her 17 years in nursing. We found ourselves chasing after the American dream and our family was being pulled in every direction. Isolation began to set in and our family was disintegrating right in front of us. While in the process of a divorce we made one final effort to salvage our marriage and attended a conference offered by FamilyLife, a subsidiary of Campus Crusade for Christ.
It was during that FamilyLife Weekend to Remember conference in 1990 that we found hope for our marriage through Jesus Christ for the very first time. After the conference we began to apply the Bibical truths we had learned to our marriage. Friends and family started noticing that our relationship was much different than before. We then began a HomeBuilders Couples Study and invited several couples from our neighborhood. We had such a good time that we invited the group and couples from our new home church to attend the next conference with us. After the conference, our pastor asked us to launch a couples ministry in our church and God began to use us in ways we never believed possible!
Sandy served with his previous wife Cheryl until Easter morning of 2013 when God took her home after an 18-month battle with cancer.
In November of 2015 God brought Sandy and Sharon, already on staff with FamilyLife since 1993, together to start a new chapter in their lives of combining their individual families into a new blended legacy for His purpose and glory.
In the early years on staff Sandy served in the Conference and Events Department of FamilyLife, giving leadership to between 7 and 10 conference cities in the area of volunteer recruiting, marketing and promotion. In July of 2003 Sandy assumed responsible for training and coaching all FamilyLife missionary staff in the area of Ministry Partner Development (MPD). About that same time he was also assigned to those same responsibilities as part of Cru’s MPD Executive Team with his primary focus on new mid-career staff building their initial financial support team.
Sharon has served in a number of different roles at FamilyLife over the years including a stint as administrative assistant to Dennis Rainey, president of FamilyLife. She currently serves as a mid-level donor representative in FamilyLife’s Donor Department where she communicates on a regular basis with more that 350-ministry partner currently on her caseload.
Together they have 5 grown children and 9 grandchildren.
We believe what Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” We are committed to following His blueprints to build Godly homes, to work diligently to touch the lives of people for Jesus Christ, and to be good stewards of the resources that God provides as we minister to families and couples in our nation and around the world through FamilyLife.
