About Me

I was ex 217th Entry Craft Apprentice 1970-72. After passing out as a Junior Technician was posted to RAF Buchan and worked on the Type 80, FPS6 Height finder and Radar Office.

Did a post graduate course at RAF Newton on Bloodhound Mk2 and was posted to RAF Aberporth for missile testing and firing. 1973-75

Posted to 112 Sqn Raf Episkopi (Bloodhound Squadron)

Returned to Leeming to work on AR1 Radar and Precision Approach Radar.

Trained on TACAN and posted to Saxa Vord. TYpe 80 Type 13 again.

Managed to get in the RAF Gymnastic Team and spent 3-4 months vaulting around the country and did the Royal Tournament in 1978..

Posted to Staxton Wold working on Radar Office and then on SSR 750 and RPERDS (radar plot extraction and remote display system)

Promoted to Sgt and posted to RAF Neatishead.

Posted to RAF Gatow 1986

Returned to RAF Staxton Wold as a Chief Tech.

Posted back to Neatishead and spent the rest of my career there (in between post grad courses and Falklands duty)

Discharged in 1996 after 26 years service. Went on to teach science in high school for 9 years as a science tech. Decided to pack it all in in 2005 and emigrated/retired to Central France. Been here for 5 years now and love it.

A long and distinguished RAF carrer chap, a little longer than my nine years eh? Sometimes wished I'd stayed in longer, that's how life goes.
