Transcript of the Will of John Dudley of Stevington 1684


In the name of God Amen this the Three and twentieth day of March 1684 and in the Raigne of beinge the firste yeare of King James the second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland, I John Dudley the edler of Stevington in the countie of Bedford being sicke in Body but in sound and perfect memory praise be to God for the same first I commend my soule to Almight God my creator hopinge through the meritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer and alone Saviour my soule that be saved at the last day and as for my body to be buryed in a decent order accordinge to the discretion of my Execturors hereinafter named.


First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Dudley the sume of Twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to be payed by my executors within  six  months after my decease


It: I give unto my sonne Israll Dudley one acre of free land lying at a  certain  place  called  Loosill  being six landes lying next the landes of Robert Gale west and abbutting a hedge called Loosill Close hedge beinge of Richard Houghton lately purchased by John Dudley of William Knight.  This is to the the proper use and behoofe of the aforesaid Israell Dudley and his heirs and his assignes forever with the nr & every appertinances to it whatsoever now growinge beloginge or appertainginge.


It: I give unto my sonne Israells two children each of them one ewe hogerell a piece to be delivered by my exectutors presently after my decease.


Itm: I give unto my father Dudley living in Wellingborough my grey coat and two of my best shiftes and ten shillings of money and my best hat and twentie shillings a yeare to be payed equallie and quarterly during his natural life by Thomas Thody John Dudley my executors and Mary Dudley that is to say six shillings and eight pence a piece in the whole year.


All the rest of my goods and Chattells Bills Bonds and Ready money unbequeathed my debts beinge payed my funeral expenses discharged I give unto my sonne John Dudley & Thomas Thody my Sonne in Law whom I do nominate and apointe to be my sole and joint execturos of this my last will and testaments whatsoever.  In witness whereof I the said John Dudley have here unto sett my hand and seale the day and year above written.
