The Mountain Empire Men's Club

Itís that time of year again when the leaves turn and fall, the days get shorter and colder, and the Mountain Empire Menís Club turns its focus away from fundraising and towards giving back to the community. First, donít forget to have your Trick-or-Treaters pick up their FREE glow sticks on Halloween. The MEMC will be giving them out in the Ranchero section of Pine Valley. Weíll start off the season in late November by testing and hanging the Christmas lights across the streets of Descanso and Pine Valley. The Pine Valley Garden Club will also add to the festive feel of the season by adding their traditional Christmas tree and present decorations along Old Highway 80 as well. Moving into December, those 55 and older are invited to the Annual Senior Christmas Dinner. This is a complete holiday turkey dinner and itís FREE. The dinner is Saturday night, December 6th from 5-9:00pm at the PV Clubhouse. We are delighted to have back the Alpine Chorale group to provide some wonderful Christmas music beginning at 6:00pm followed by a drawing for the poinsettias used as table decorations. Contact Vern Sonksen at 619-302-7485 for further information and reservations. The following weekend, Ho, Ho, Ho!! will be heard as Santa Claus has informed the MEMC that he once again looks forward to coming to Pine Valley to see the many good little boys and girls of the Mountain Empire. The MEMC will be helping Santa by providing the Santa House for him again this year. The Santa House will be located in downtown Pine Valley in the shopping center parking lot on Friday and Saturday, December 12th & 13th, from 5:00-8:00pm. As is the tradition, the MEMC will be providing FREE pictures of your children as they tell Santa just what it is they want for Christmas this year.

The MEMC was originally formed back in 1969 to benefit the students of the backcountry by awarding college scholarships to our local high school seniors. Through the years the club has expanded its mission not only by providing scholarships, but to the aiding the back country community as well as the Mountain Empire School District. This is accomplished through monetary and time donations to educational and sports programs, households in need, and by providing community events such as the Annual Christmas Dinner for seniors and Santa House, which includes FREE pictures with Santa. The club also provides and hangs the Christmas lights across the streets of Pine Valley and Descanso, offers glow sticks on Halloween and helps to keep our freeway roadside clean by adopting a stretch of I-8. (You can help there by not allowing trash to blow out of your vehicles)
