The spring of 1976, the Mark Vyhlidal Band was formed. The group started out as a four-piece combo and later grew to a six-piece band.
In February 1982, the first recording was released. Since that first recording a total of eight more have been released with the latest recording "Are You Ready For Some More" being released just recently.
The Mark Vyhlidal Band plays a variety of music with the main focus on playing the Nebraska traditional Czech style polkas and waltzes. The instrumentation consists of accordions, trumpets, saxes, clarinets, a trombone, tuba and drums.
The Mark Vyhlidal Band has performed in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, South Dakota, North Dakota, Canada, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and for four years has performed at the Grand Polka Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Other highlights include performing on National Public Radio with over a million listeners on the Garrison Keillor "Prairie Home Companion Show" in May of 1993. The group was also selected by Microsoft for music on the Travel page in 1996 and 1997 and was selected by the Smithsonian Institute to be on the Folkways national recording "Deeper Polka" in 2001.
The Mark Vyhlidal Band continues to be very active playing for festivals and all occasions and always loves to entertain great polka people.
