The Airman Wakes with His Lover

Their eyes uncouple the night from bedspreads
as the new day’s light filigrees their room.
He said in his dream he was the only
survivor aboard a shot-down bomber.
Hers was nothing grand. Just one of starlings
painted on the white ceiling above them.
