TATAY JOBO ELIZES

SELF-PUBLISHING GUIDE

Introduction

Writings are timeless and they act as mirrors of  history. I publish writings as they remain relevant anytime.  You don't have to be a good writer to write something. The only requirement is to write in simple terms to be understood.  I have seen a lot of good writings in the internet, in magazines and newspapers. But most writers have only one or two articles and therefore not enough material to be published as a book. And yet, many of them need to be published. So the idea of collecting all these various writings hit me.  I myself cannot come up with enough material. I decided to offer my services to publish anybody's worthwhile writings in one fairly good sized book, in paperback or pocketbook form. Their ability to publish is solved in a nutshell.

I am offering these services free of charge because of the availability of print-books-on-demand (POD) system nowadays.  I have acquired the knowledge the hard way.  I am now in a position to help publish writings of anybody. I can produce the book, but it’s not entirely free of cost on my part. I merely assume the cost.

Why put your writings in a book?  And not just in the internet? I recommend that writings be retained in a hard copy or in book form or printed form for posterity.  The book will always be there among your collections or libraries.  Not all use the internet.  The internet access has its technical problems.  Writings in the internet may be erased erroneously.  Free storage is hard to access. Paid storage may be returned or lost.

For those looking for a publisher, especially if you have a novel or many essays, I can produce the paperback book under your own authorship at no cost.

“Be Considerate For Once” - one of Tatay Jobo books

You honestly believe you’re a good human being who doesn’t need to be told to be considerate for once. You’ve mastered GMRC—Good Manners and Right Conduct—that Miss Teacher had pounded into your coconut shell through all of grade school. You came up to adulthood steeped in the ways of ideal behavior. No worries. Live then a nice ride in a world inhabited by good people. Really?

You and I and the crowd out there may have presumed too much. Aptly titled, Be Considerate for Once is a book that pricks our conscience on the missteps we make as we go about the many ways and means of living. Subtitled Behavior Issues, it is a candid appraisal of everyday life. It is replete with dos and don’ts — many of which we do practice, some of which we simply ignore.

Chapter 15, Don’t cut lines, is a standard no-no for the general public. I’ll cite an actual incident: We were in a line to board the Greyhound bus that would bring us from Maryland to New York. A big hulk of a fellow of ethnic race, definitely not a kababayan, matter-of-factly cut the line in front of my petite daughter Raileen. With a loud commanding voice, Raileen told the bad guy to “go stand at the end of the line.” The fellow slouched and followed as commanded. He must have thought his actuation would be disregarded. Did you experience being cut off in a line, and exasperated, you gave the out-of-order fellow a mouthful? Share your story when you nipped somebody’s misbehavior—for the good of the both of you, people around you, and for the whole world.

A world citizen—that’s what you and I become when we observe the dos and don’ts in this book that deals with behavior issues of worldwide relevance. To quote the author: “The ideas presented in this book are meant for the general populace or mainstream society, without any pre-qualification as to race, color, wealth, health, nationality, creed, and religion.” For example, some of the chapters are: Don’t be a litterbug, Don’t block any exit, Don’t spit in public. Universal civilities, don’t you think so?

The chapters on driving give lessons that may just avert accidents — lives lost in a car crash or lost in a shoot-out by gun-toting drivers. Road Rage and Rudeness are chapters for those whose blood pressures rise to boiling point when peeved. Recall cases of those who, in the heat of the altercation, snuffed out a life with the shooter himself ending in jail also for life.

The last chapter, More Behavior List, enumerates specific habits classified as unsafe, big irritant, minor irritant, or just plain irritant. See which of these have placed you in a fix, and those which have irritated you. Or, you are yourself the guilty “irritator.”

Author Tatay Jobo Elises (a pen name) was an electrical engineer with a masters in business administration in the Philippines.  He migrated to the United States and is now residing with his family in Brooklyn, New York. He is into writing, and self-publishing as a hobby. He is involved in “piglets dispersal programs for livelihood projects in the Philippines,” his chosen advocacy. In the Foreword, Tatay Jobo Elises gives noteworthy tribute to his father’s own book, Turning Points, which Elises republished in 2009. It contains his old man’s “favorite themes of Good Manners, Right Conduct, Civility, Considerateness, Politeness, Love of Fellowman, Humanity, and similar lofty and ideal attributes [that] remain the same as endless goals of mankind.”

On the back cover of Be Considerate For Once is a challenge to the reader: “The book is merely asking the reader to experiment [on] developing and mastering just one good habit among the list and become adept and be good at it. One good and wholesome behavior could hopefully generate more good behaviors in that person. Nobody can prove this experiment except the reader.”

Be Considerate For Once is far from being a page-turner for readers who go for cliff-hanger thrillers and those who groan and moan over the fates of Romeos and Juliets in tales of romance and love flights. But I dare say, it is a great book for everyone, each dos and don’ts to be observed as a matter of course in the journey of life.#
