One of only seven 11th Border men to survive the fighting as a trapped pocket of men lodged behind enemy lines, held up a brigade for a whole week before succumbing. Died as a Prisoner of War in German Occupied France.

Killed by a shell in the trenches, on the 11th February 1916, in the F1 trench subsector in front of Albert. He appears to have been killed during a trench relief, when the 17th Highland Light Infantry were taking over the line from the 11th Border.

Died of Wounds received in action 28th August 1918.
