I was once told, some thirty years ago, that this building was originally a bakehouse. I haven't found anything to corroborate the story, and to be honest it looks nothing other than a 'long house' type of outbuilding, which are quite typical of the East Devon area. However, it's just around the corner from where I live, and I've always loved to see its state of decay and dereliction. There is something enigmatic and very photogenic, to my mind, of old wood, slate, stone and brick...together with the ubiquitous ferns growing out of it!
The small field, at the edge of which it sits, is usually fenced off, but the gate was open on this particular day. I happened to have my camera with me at the time, so it seemed rude not to take up the invitation! It isn't big or sensational; it's used as a storage shed and probably has very little history of note, but I love it!
A few more photos, along with these, can be seen in the Photo Gallery album.
