Danketsu-do "The Way of Unity" was created in the spring of 2008 by three experienced amateur martial artists
Danketsu-do is a multi-style martial art that covers a comprehensive range of striking, throwing and grappling techniques.
Danketsu-do incorporates Karate and traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu and elements of modern Jiu-Jitsu
Traditional dojo discipline applies when training in Danketsu-do but the club also tries to foster a spirit of camaraderie amongst students and teachers.
All new students will start training with a "white belt" but will be awarded different coloured belts as they progress through the grading syllabus. For some, the aim of training is to get fit and learn some new skills whilst for others the aim is to work towards achieving their "black belt". On average it takes around 7 years of training to achieve 1st dan "black belt"
Current Danketsu-do students range in age from 4 years old up to those in their 40s (Juniors and adults are trained in separate classes). Students and teachers come from all walks of life with people as diverse as postmen, plumbers, businessmen and professors having trained or currently training with the club.
Newcomers are always welcome and further details on training times and venues can be found on the "when and where" page of this site.
