The Giant Killers

The Dragons can boast being the oldest Football Club in Wales, having come into existance as part of the Cricket Club in 1864. They became members of The Football League in 1921 when a new Third Division was created and they spent most of the next eighty years moving between it and the Fourth Tier when it was created in the late '50s. The 1970s and early '80s was Wrexham's heyday when they recorded several high profile defeats of top flight clubs in cup competitions and even reached the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners Cup, by virtue of being Welsh cup holders. They capped the decade by winning promotion to the Second Tier of the League for the first time, where they stayed for four seasons. In 2008 Wrexham felt the opposite side of the coin when they dropped into the fifth tier, losing their League status in the process. In the 70s and 80s they had some great cup runs but their greatest day came in 1992 when then Champions, Arsenal were humbled at The Racecourse.
