The Cannock & District Chess League was set up to "... promote the game of Chess within its area and to organise League Matches and competitions between the participating clubs. The Prime aim of the League will be to bring an awareness of Chess to the younger generations ...".
The league season runs from September to early April, and is currently organised in 3 divisions. All divisions have 4 boards per team.
In divisions with 6 or less teams, there will be home and away fixtures against each opposing team during the season. In divisions with 7 or more teams, each opposing team is played once each season, with about half the fixtures for each team at home, the remainder away. There is no promotion/relegation in the league.
For fixtures between clubs located more than 24 miles apart, either club can request that the fixture be played at a neutral venue equidistant between the two clubs.
A "Premier" division (with no grading limits) is available - subject to sufficient requests for entry.
Rate of play
30 moves in 60 minutes. At the conclusion of black's 30th move, both clocks are wound back 20 minutes for a blitz finish. All matches will finish on the evening of the match - no adjournments
