Welcome to Buzleo Pugs
My name is Caryn Coogan. I live in Wexford, in the sunny south-east of Ireland.
The name BUZLEO, pays tribute to my first two pugs, Buzby and Cleo. My Dad bought me Buzby when I was ten, and I bought Cleo in 2001. I love pugs, and always have. I hope this website gives an appreciation of this wonderful breed and what they mean to me and my family. To the left is a picture of me going Best In Show with Polly a pug my dad bought from Sam Costner (Sammett Pugs) in the 1980s!!
My pugs are family pets and lead a very happy life. It has always been my dream to show pugs and have a champion. I was showing pugs from an early age but my studies pushed me in a different direction. I attended the St. Patricks Days show in 1983, and in 1991, and a few times after that. I decided to persue my dream in 2001. After waiting over six years in vain for a pup from a breeder here in Ireland, I was given the opportunity by Mary Hambelton (Marbelton, UK), and now I am completely hooked.
I am a strong supporter of Scadinavian judging and breeding system, which has a fundemental focus on the health and well-being of dogs. Here at Buzleo, I like to be a Trendsetter and not a Trendfollower. Nina was the first pug to be imported into Ireland from Scandanavia, she is the first pug to obtain all her three CACIBs in 3 different countries and she is the first pug to obtain a long multitude of International titles. In Scandanavia, great pugs are bred in terms of health, anatomy and movement. In my opinion, Tangetoppen Pugs are the best pug breeders in the world today, and I know in time, they will be viewed as revolutionaries of the breed.
I thank Mary Hambelton from Marbelton Kennels for getting me started in showing. She sold me a son of GB Orysha Smart Move - Marbelton Just In Time, who I showed for a shortime with great succuss. Sitting ringside at Crufts one year, a stunning bitch that Mary owned caught my eye. She was very different from the other pugs and I coul not take my eyes off her for a second. She had been bred in Norway by a relatively unknown kennel at the time. I decided to look into the breeders behind this wonderful bitch, and that was when I met Elisabeth Olsen and Bjorn Erling Loken from Tangetoppen, and bought a half sister to the bitch I had seen at Crufts. The extremely high standards they set themselves is reflected in the sheer quality of their pugs and, the worldwide sucess of Tangetoppen pugs is a fitting tribute to all their hard work. Tangetoppen, now soley owned by Elisabeth, is an inspiration to all pug breeders. I only wish Honefose was closer to Wexford, so that I could enjoy and appreciate her wonderful pugs all of the time! Elisabeth is my constant mentor and I would have little or no success without her constant assistance and support.
Many of the glorious photos of Nina on my website have been taken by Jean Lawless of Revloch, another inspiring and highly successful kennel here in Ireland.
