A wonderful Show put on by the local Ag Society attended by a staggering number of quality horse and ponies! A lovely day out.
First outings for both our foals, and we were very pleased with both of them!
Birdwood Masquerade looks like she loves being in the Show-ring, coming home with Champion Australian Pony, Reserve ASP and a super win to be Champion Arabian Pony from a quality line-up!
Birdwood Royal Rebel lived up to his name and made us laugh many times!! He had a great day also winning Champion Roan and 1st Australian Colt, 1st Part Welsh Colt and 1st ASP Colt. Many thanks to Rachel from KR Show Team for handling the ponies on the day.
Together the ponies were named BEST PROGENY GROUP OF FOALS for their Sire Dunelm Musician. What a thrill to win this from an impressive line-up that included Shetlands, Welsh and Arabian Groups. Many thanks to Shiranna Garlands for the lovely prizes.
Watch this space for an UPDATE ... lots has happened that we want to tell you about!

Fingers crossed that the our grey Australian Pony/Arabian Pony mare Birdwood Madonna is in foal to our resident Australian Pony/Arabian Pony Sire Dunelm Musician - again for a Christmas baby! No prediction re colour for this foal!!!
The 2010 Canberra Royal was a WET event for us. The heavens opened with thunder and lightening just in time for our palomino class! Birdwood Romanz (Lady) was very well behaved and stood throughout the events - even managing to trot through the puddles in her workouts! Her behaviour and manners were rewarded with 1st in the Palomino Filly under 4 years and Reserve Champion Palomino Mare/Filly.
APSB Feature Show, Moss Vale NSW 17 January 2010
Our first Show for 2010 saw some very pleasing results!
Birdwood Simba won the Partbred APSB Championship after winning the Gelding over 13hh class. He also beat some quality ponies for the Champion Part Welsh Gelding sash after winning the Gelding over 13hh class.
Our little super-star, Birdwood Rupert Bear, a firm favourite with the family, was again victorious! Taking the Champion Australian Gelding and Champion Roan ribbons home as well as winning the Part Welsh Gelding under 13hh!
Following the Show, Rupert has been leased to the Gallagher Family of Cambeltown, to become the 'family pony'. We hope he will be ridden and shown by 10 year old Sheridan and her little sister Mackenzie, and perhaps occasionally big brother Joshua! We wish them every success - and lots of fun.

After a busy Spring Show season, it was Birdwood Romanz who flew the flag for the Birdwood name at the National Capital Horse Show this year. And wave it well she did!
In a tough Arabian Pony Filly 2 yrs class, full of 6 quality fillies, she was placed second and went on to be sashed Reserve Champion Arabian Pony Filly. She followed this up with a win in the Palomino Filly 2 years class, went on to be Champion Palomino Mare/Filly and then declared Supreme Palomino Exhibit! What a thrill... She also re-appeared later in the afternoon to claim a win in the Partbred APSB Mare/Filly over 13hh class. [Photo: Jarendan Photography]

NSW APSB Nationals, SIEC 7 & 8 Nov 2009
We took a 'fresh' team up to SIEC for the 2009 Nationals, including the debut outing for our new colt, Fairlight Acres Subaru. What a super show colt he will be! Took all in his stride, and proved he will be a pleasure to have out-n-about. He won the Australian Pony Colt 2 & under 4yrs and then went on to be declared Champion Australian Colt 12.2-14hh! [Photo: Delwyn Moss Photo]
Birdwood Rupert Bear made his much anticipated return to the Show-ring, with a win in the Roan Gelding and Reserve Champion Roan, as well as 2nd Riding Pony Gelding u12.2hh, 2nd Show Hunter 12-13hh and 2nd 3G Gelding in hand. After spending some time with and being educated by Penny Whatman in Canowindra, he was entered in the saddle classes on the sunday. Sadly, Penny couldn't make it to Sydney to ride him due to exam commitments, so Nicole Rivett stepped in and did a wonderful job riding Rupert. 2nd in the Novice Australian Ridden u12.2hh, 4th in the Intermediate and a superb 2nd in the Ridden Coloured u12.2hh. Thanks Nicole, very much!! [Photo: Delwyn Moss Photo]
And not to be left out was Birdwood Bush Blossom. Bloss had a great Show, winning Champion Arabian Pony Mare and Reserve Champion Buckskin as well as placing 4th in the large Led Show Hunter 13-14hh and 3rd in the Partbred APSB Mare class. [Photo: Coady Photos]
WOW!! What a hugely successful weekend for the divine palomino 2 year old filly, Birdwood Romanz...
We travelled up to the NSW All-Welsh, and began bright and early with an 8am class - the Part Welsh Futurity. Romanz WON this class with a super workout (through the jumps set up for the Working Hunter class!!). She was also sashed Best Part Welsh Futurity.
Then we travelled up to Salt Ash for the Hunter Valley Arab Show, where Romanz continued her lucky form and began the day as Runner-up Best Derivative Youngstock, followed by 1st in a strong Arabian Pony Mare/Filly class, 1st Palomino Youngstock & Champion Palomino as well as Champion Partbred APSB. But the real thrill of the day was winning the Supreme Led All-Breeds Exhibit - Romanz's first Supreme!
Birdwood Simba made his long awaited return to the Showring at the NSW All-Welsh, after a 5 year absence, to look magnificent and claim a pleasing 2nd in both Part Welsh Gelding classes - All-Welsh and Gelding Show.
Simba continued his fabulous weekend at the Hunter Valley Show, gaining a fantastic 3rd in a very large Arabian Pony Gelding class (winner was the eventual Supreme Derivative Gelding), 1st Partbred APSB and 2nd Part Welsh. He has a bright future in these led classes wirth more experience.
NSW Arabian State Titles - Sept 12 2009
Birdwood Romanz and Jacqui attended the Arabian State Titles held at Clarendon, NSW.
This was the first time we have exhibited at this Show, and it was a fabulous day! With just the one pony to show, it was relaxing and vey enjoyable.
'Lady' got off to a great start winning both the Best Head and Best Trot clases for Derivative Juniors! These were large classes.
Then a 3rd in the Arabian Pony Filly 2 & 3 years and 2nd Dual Registered Mare/Filly.
APSB Youngstock Show - Sept 13 2009
Lady and Jacqui stayed on in Sydney to compete on sunday at the Youngstock Show put on by the NSW Branch of the APSB. Many thanks to Sharyn McKell from Jarendan Stock Horses for letting us stay saturday night. Sunday saw us at a new location - Luddenham Showground! What a super little ground - and we certainly enjoyed the shade of those large gum trees.
Birdwood Romanz was 1st and Reserve Champion Partbred APSB Filly, 1st and Reserve Champion Coloured Filly, 2nd and Reserve Champion Arabian Pony and 1st Part Welsh Filly 2 yrs!
For a 2 year old filly at her first outings for 2009, she travelled beautifully and was a delight to have away. She is a fine example of our Birdwood breeding - her excellent temperament meant she took all before her in stride. She is following proudly in her dams footsteps!
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Marie Cooper and her beautiful filly BIRDWOOD HEART OF GOLD on their recent wins. 'Holly' looked quite superb at the Show on May 24th, and was consistently in the placings (most of them blue!!) including the Reserve Champion Arabian Derivative 2 & 3 yrs from a line-up of 12 horses! Marie has done a wonderful job with her, I think you'll agree she looks wonderful...
Victorian Arabian Classic - March 12-15 2009, Werribee VIC
This was the first time Birdwood has ventured south of the border to attend the Victorian Arabian Classic. There were a few initial 'hiccups' by the organising committee, such as allocating us to portable stables that weren't even built and a timetable that was crippling for Arabian Ponies entered in dual registered or ridden classes. But we got through these issues and had a very enjoyable show.
Saturday was our main day, and we encountered constant rain for the morning, and most of the afternoon. Wet suits and hats for everyone!!
Birdwood Country Belle won the Led Derivative Best Trot class in a strong field and was placed 4th in the Arabian Pony Mare class. We ventured into a couple of ridden classes with limited success.
Birdwood Bush Blossom was a little hard done-by in her Arabian Pony Filly class and was put down to 5th in the driving rain - see the photo! Under a different judge she placed a pleasing 5th in the Dual Reg Pony capably led by James Triggs (Aloha Stud) as we had another class clash!!
Congratulations must go to fellow NSW competitor Mandy Lewis (who travelled with us in the truck) on her magnificent show: Champion Ridden Arabian Pony, Champion Ridden Dual Registered, Reserve Champion Dressage Horse and Reserve Champion Western Horse. WOW what a pony Zues (Lac-La-Biche Playboy) is!! He is pictured here with our Team Mascot - Vickie..
Also travelling to Victoria with us was Carol Hancock and Aloha King's Flight who made quite an impressive picture in the ring. Flight placed 2nd in his Arabian Stockhorse class in very strong competition - well done Flight! Keep an eye on this youngster in the next 12 months...
It was a great week and I would like to Thank those who made the effort to come and celebrate my 30th Birthday with me at the Show! Talk has already started about our next big trip! ... where shall we go..?
Birdwood Country Belle and Birdwood Bush Blossom represented the Stud at Canberra Royal with very pleasing results:
Belle was 1st in the Palomino Mare class and went on to win Reserve Champion Palomino Mare/Filly. The raced out of that class and straight into a very strong Arabian Derivative mare under 14.2hh class, with 18 horses entered. She worked into a 3rd placing - even without plaiting!!
This was Blossom's first Royal Show and she proved she will be a pony able to compete at the highest level, coping with the trots, jumping and water-ski-pools with minimal fuss. She placed a wonderful 3rd in the Arabian Derivative Filly class and then a 3rd in a very strong Buckskin Filly class later in the afternoon.
Thanks to my many helper:, Dionne, April, Jocelyn and Jo - every little bit helped!!
CROOKWELL AG SHOW, 15 Feb 2009
This was our first show back since December, after missing a few local Shows recently due to the heat-wave. Crookwell provided us with a day quite the opposite! It was cold, windy and drizzled rain all morning - making us very chilly.
Birdwood Country Belle and Birdwood Bush Blossom took on the weather to have a very successful morning. Belle won Champion Palomino and then in tough competition was named Champion Arabian Derivative also. Blossom was Champion Buckskin, placed 1st in the Arab Derivative Filly class and a good 2nd in the ASP 12.2-13.2hh class.
We did not stay for the pony breeds due to the inclement weather and enjoyed the early return from a Show for a change! Many thanks to my wonderful strapper, Emma Boland - what a trooper in that weather!!
NSW All-Breed Youngstock Show, NSW 7th December 2008 -
Birdwood Romanz won the Palomino Yearling Filly class, and was 2nd in her Patrbred APSB and Part Welsh classes with a tough 3rd place in her Arabian Pony Yearling class.
Birdwood Prince of Thieves was again consistently successful with Reserve Champion Arabian Riding Pony Gelding, 2nd Riding Pony and 2nd Aust Saddle Pony.
Both ponies travelled excellently and were a pleasure to have at the Show, a credit to their breeding and temperament!
National Capital Horse Show, 29 Nov 2008
This would be the first outing for the exquisite yearling filly, Birdwood Romanz. She proved to us that she will be a true show pony, taking all the new experiences of the day in her stride and acting like an old pro! She placed 2nd in the Yearling Palomino and 2nd in the Yearling Arabian Pony Filly.
Birdwood Prince of Thieves showed he is a true Open Pony contender, winning the Riding Pony Gelding under 13.2hh class, against much older and more experienced geldings under the Victorian judge, Mr Gary le Brocq. Prince was also a winner in the Arabian ring, taking out the Yearling Arabian Riding Pony Gelding class.
National Arabian Stud Horse Show, 19-23 Nov 2008
We made the extended stay at the Arab Nationals with 3 of our ponies, B. Country Belle, B Bush Blossom and B Prince of Thieves.
After surviving some wild weather we very happily came home with some wonderful results, especially the Reserve Champion Arabian Pony Filly prize that Blossom won afer claiming first prize in the Arabian Pony Filly 3 years!
Belle made quite a picture in the indoor arena to place 3rd in a strong Arabian Pony Mare class. And Prince continued his solid year with a great 2nd place in the Arabian Riding Pony Gelding Yearling class in tough competition.
2008 NATIONAL STUD PONY SHOW, S.I.E.C. NSW, 1st & 2nd Nov
WOW, what a Show for Birdwood Ponies!!! We took 3 beautiful ponies to Sydney and returned home with a swag of ribbons and quite a few broadies too!
The star for us was Birdwood Country Belle, continuing her amazing season with 3 Champion ribbons! Her first for the weekend was in the Arabian Pony section on Saturday. She also placed 2nd in her Partbred APSB class. But on Sunday she really shone, starting the day with Champion Palomino in a quality line-up of pally's. She won her ridden Coloured Horse class also. Then she competed in her first ever Show Hunter class... and WON IT! Judge Sue-ellen Deane from Victoria said she was 'a perfect hunter, showing substance with elegance and quality'- high praise indeed! The judge backed-up her comments by giving Belle the Champion Led Show Hunter ribbon - a thrill for us all!!
Birdwood Rupert Bear had a wonderful show, beginning the weekend by winning his Riding Pony Gelding class and then being named Reserve Champion Riding Pony Gelding in a quality line-up of geldings. He continued his winning ways with his Arabian Pony and Part Welsh classes as well as a 3rd in the Australian gelding class. Sunday saw Rupert make his debut under saddle, calmly and expertly ridden by Miss Penny Whatman from Canowindra. They struck a beautiful bond together and we can't thank Penny enough for her effort and talent.
Not to be outdone by her stable-mates was Birdwood Bouquet, who is always a head-turner! Boo placed 1st in a large Part Welsh class, 1st in her Riding Pony class, 1st in the Partbred APSB mare class and was sashed Reserve Champion Partbred APSB Mare or Filly and was second to Belle in the Palomino mare! She was beautifully ridden by Penny in her saddle classes, for wins in the Novice and Intermediate Partbred APSB classes, and a wonderful 3rd in the Childs APSB. Penny and Boo made a lovely picture and it was wonderful to see her going so beautifully - again many thanks go to Penny!

Birdwood Rupert Bear was a star, winning Supreme Part Welsh and receiving the WPCS Medal! Well done Rupert. He was also Champion ASP, Champion Australian and Reserve Champion Arabian Pony.
Birdwood Prince of Thievesis really learning how to be a true show pony, with professional stands in all his classes and faultless workouts, we are very proud of Prince! He achieved Champion Arabian Derivative, Champion Riding Pony and Champion ASP Junior.
MORONGLA SHOW, 6th Oct 2008
Birdwood Country Belle has continued her winning ways at this Show, taking out the hotly contested Supreme Champion Arabian Derivative (after winning Champion Arabian Pony) and Supreme Coloured Exhibit (after winning Champion Palomino). As well as being Champion Partbred APSB. Thank you to Susan Langfield for leading her in some of these classes when I was announcing!
Other Birdwood Ponies deserving mention are-

COWRA SHOW, 9 Sept 2008
Birdwood Stud attended Cowra Show and put on a wonderful display of coloured ponies! Birdwood Bush Blossom was 1st in the Led Buckskin class, with Emma Clarkes' Birdwood Gabrielle in close 2nd. Birdwood Bonanza was 1st in the Led Palomino Gelding class, followed by the Led Palomino Mare class which saw Birdwood Country Belle in 1st place and Birdwood Bouquet in 2nd place. B. Country Belle took out the Champion Coloured Horse title with B. Bonanza in Reserve Champion!
B. County Belle was also named Champion Led Arabian Derivative, won the Ridden Coloured Horse class.
Big Thank You's to Nikki Fallon from Canberra for jumping on board a very green B. Bouquet and having a go at the ridden events! A credible 4th in the Ridden Arabian and Ridden Coloured! And to Fiona Clarke for helping us all on the day as a strapper, holder and handler - much appreciated.
BARELLAN SHOW, 30 Aug 2008
We ventured down to Barellan Show, a first time for us - and what a GREAT little show! Definitely on the calendar again for us next year...
Birdwood Country Belle was sashed Champion Partbred APSB and Champion Arabian Derivative in some fabulous strong competition. She also took home the Champion Palomino ribbon. Unfortunately the weather turned nasty after lunch, and we decided not to risk riding a young horse in wet conditions so she did not compete under saddle.
Birdwood Prince of Thieves also had a great day placing 2nd in a strong Open class of Pony Geldings - not bad for an 11.2hh yearling! He was also 2nd in the Arabian Derivative Youngstock class.
Birdwood Country Belle has made her Dressage debut at the Young Dressage Association's August 24th Competition, attempting two tests. She placed 2nd in the Restricted Prelim 1.2 class and =4th in the Prep 4. A very pleasing first effort!

He has commenced some One Day Events and we can't wait to hear how he goes! Keep up the outstanding riding Alex and all the best from us at Birdwood...
December 7th: Well, Christmas has snuck up on us again. It is usually a time for us to have a break after a spring full of Showing and competition, but not this year!
With 2008 rapidly approaching, we look forward to starting the New Year fresh with enthusiasm and inspiration for the ponies who have missed so many opportunities to strut their stuff for everyone to see. We will be exhibiting a few ponies under saddle in the coming season, this will be a change for some of the ponies, as we have concentrated on our in-hand youngstock for the past few years. Look out for Birdwood Country Belle, Birdwood Bouquet and Birdwood Rupert Bear (above) !
A big GET WELL from all the Birdwood ponies and family goes to Sandy, after she slipped in wet muddy conditions and broke her ankle in 3 places!!! After a short stay in Orange Base Hospital and surgery (involving tie-wire, plates and screws!) she is now on the road to recovery, albeit getting very frustrated with not being able to go out and spend time with her ponies. Send her an email with your good wishes here and brighten her day!!
Congratulations to Birdwood Gypsy Girl on her debut show, winning all her classes: Arabian Pony Filly, Part APSB Filly, Part Welsh Filly, Saddle Pony and Palomino! As well as collecting the Reserve Champion award for Palomino, Partbred APSB, Part Welsh and Saddle Pony. Her sisters B. Dusty's Girl and B. Gabrielle and her 3/4 brother B.
