Great News! Our Genealogy Library reopens for “by appointment only” visits on Wednesday, 2 September 2020. Email Alice at agslibrarian@gmail.com for an appointment.
Initially we will only be open on Wednesdays as the Central Library is closed Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.
The following guidelines will be observed:
· “By appointment only” visits up to 1 hour in length made via email.
· When visitors arrive at the library they need to indicate to library staff they will be visiting the Genealogy Library. If you know the way to Genealogy so indicate or the staff will take you there.
· When you arrive for their appointments:
o In your email, you will have said what you are wanting to research and the volunteer will pull relevant books and have them on the table.
o Visitors will need to bring their own pen/pencils (or we can give them an AGS pencil).
o Volunteers and Visitors will need to wear a mask
o Visitors will need to wash their hands upon entering.
o Only the volunteer can use the computer and computer table.
o After a patron leaves, the table will be sanitized.
o The books will be left where they are until the next day we are open (Wed/Sat) and then re-shelved.
o The volunteer will clean the computer and computer table, if it was used, before closing up the room.
This plan has been approved by the Aurora Library. As always guidelines will be updated as required. Our goal to keep library staff, volunteers and visitors safe.

We are in the middle of upgrading our website for easier access to past newsletters. Please accept our apologizes during this update. You will be able to find the archived newsletters at the bottom of the Current Newsletter page- Webmaster

How to access AGS Library holdings LibraryThing.com

LibraryThing.com

As I’ve previously mentioned in the newsletter, AGS Library holdings are being cataloged on LibraryThing.com.

LibraryThing is an online service to help people catalog their books easily.  You can access the catalog from anywhere – even on a mobile phone.  Former AGS Librarian Mary Trogg started this project and we continue to add to our online library.

To access our holdings at LibraryThing.com:

·         Go to www.librarything.com

·         Put AuroraGenSociety in the "search site" box

·         No results will come up

·         Along the left side of the page select “Members”

·         AuroraGenSociety comes up

·         Click on AuroraGenSociety

·         Click on "Your Library"

·         On the right side you can "Search your library" using a full or partial title, author or a keyword (such as yearbook, tax, land, Connecticut, Military, etc.)

·         A list of our books will come up

·         If you wish to find books on a particular subject, such as Map, Computer, Colorado, Immigration, etc., along the top click on “Your Books,” then click on “Tags.”  Up comes a list of all the “Tags” we have created.  Click on the tag of interest and the list of books in that category come up.
