Story
A young boy of 14, Sora, is living a peaceful life on his island with his two best friends, Riku and Kairi, until one day, evil creatures invade their home. These creatures, or "heartless", those without hearts, strive to take the hearts of others, therefore turning them into heartless, and are formed from the darkness in people's hearts. As Sora reaches for his best friend Riku while he's being enveloped by darkness, a mysterious sort of keyblade appears in Sora's hand. Apparently, the different doors seperating each world, including that of the heartless' world, have been connected by a mysterious man named Ansem, and only the keyblade can lock those doors.
Sora wakes up in a town called Traverse Town, after fighting off a large heartless previously formed of the darkness in his own heart. There, he meets two laughable fellows by the names of Donald Duck, a court magician, and Goofy, a royal knight. These two creatures say they've arrived from another world: Disney Castle, and they were commanded to seek out the "key bearer", aka Sora, by their king, King Mickey, also a keyblade bearer. Aerith [Aeris], Leon, Yuffie, and Cid are friendly people Sora encounters in Traverse Town, who explain the power of the keyblade, how it chooses it's weilder, and of course, the old legends:
"The keyblade is said to hold phenomenal power...
One legend says its weilder saved the world...
While another says that he wrought chaos and destruction upon it..."
Sora continues on to other worlds with Donald and Goofy, all the while not knowing that one of his best friends was being turned against him, forced into darkness...
Sora eventually seals all the keyholes of every world, saving numerous victims along the way. He and Riku have two showdowns, and the true keyblade's chosen one was revealed; Riku. The final confrontations occur against Ansem, in which Ansem finally gets to Kingdom Hearts, the heart of all worlds. The heroes, as well as Ansem, learn Kingdom Hearts, without a doubt, is light!
In order to keep the worlds safe, Riku and King Mickey, who appears on the scene, seal themselves inside Kingdom Hearts, as Kairi is reunited with Sora. Their reunion is cut short, however, when Kairi starts drifting away. Sora makes a promise. A promise that he'll always be with her, she need only look to her heart, that they'll meet up again, someday... Besides, when Kairi's heart was forced out, it sought refuge within Sora's own heart. This was a sign, that they'd soon be together again...
