Shooting a zombie                          Virus Outbreaks

Survivng an attack                           How to tell if there is an outbreak

Weapons                                        Symptoms

One of the most effective tools in your survival is to know what you are up against. look at the zombie facts page to learn about your enemy.

shooting a zombie: the 7 most popular hit spots

the 7 most popular hit spots on a zombie with a gun are simple. obviously most common people will choose the torso, easier to aim for. this tutorial will teach you where to shoot and why.

1. the head: the only way to kill a zombie.

      2. the neck: can possibly decapetate a subject. or atleast magel its joint a bit. this is a pretty good spot to aim for if you cant hit the head.

      3. the shoulders: this will slow them down, and depending on the type of gun it could take their arm off, limiting their eating capabilities.

     4. the elbows: could limit their grasping capabilities

     5. the chest: slow them down for a second, but they get back up. usually takes no affect

     6. the stomach: slow them down for a second, they get up. usually takes no affect

     7. the upper leg: could take the leg off depending on the type of gun. they wont be able to stand any more.

8. lower leg: take off the leg below the knee. limits their walking

the 4 classes of virus outbreaks

The following are the 4 classes of the solanum virus.

1. the class one outbreak is usually very secluded. it will happen in a 3rd world country. the radius of such an outbraek would not exceed 20 miles. the number of infected will range from about 1 to 20. this outbraek will usually last only about 24 hours. class 1 outbreaks will usually not attract the press

2. the class 2 outbreak takes place in urban or densely populated areas. the amount of living dead will range from about 20 to 100. the radius of this outbreak will usually be no more than 100 miles. local law enforcement and civillians will be replaced with federal police, even a military presence such as the national gaurd would be present. this outbreak wil last no longer than a class 1. the military presence will take a more non combatent roll, to provide food and medical assistance as to not raise panic. the press will be attracted.  the story is most likely not going to be reported acurately.

3. the class 3 outbreak is a true crisis. zombies wil number in the 1000's the infectious radius wil be several hundreds of miles.the duration of this outbreak and the mop up will be as long as several months. there is no chance of the government covering anything up. the event will create to many eyewitnesses. the military and the federal police wil be involved in a full blown battle. regular military is called in. large military vehicles are also called in as well. excpect martial law, restricted travel, rationed supplies, federalized services, strictly monitored communication, and cerfews. its possible the military will set a cerfew such as the following: all people must be in their homes by 7:00 PM or they will be shot. this is a very effective way for the military to sort the zombies from the humans. riots will occur.

4. the class 4 outbreak is a hopeless outbreak. the doomsday. the undead would be the majority number on the planet. with maybe 10 to 70 000 living humans left. survival here is definitley not gaurunteed and it is porbable that the government has failed, the military has failed and the world has failed. this class will see no end. there will be no press to report this.

REMEMBER TO SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD. avoid close contact with a zombie at all costs

survivng an attack

now of coarse you want to survive. but in order to do so you have to keep calm and know whats going on. there are usually 2 different types of events that take place during the common train of thought of the human being during an attack: hide, and run. these are the most common thoughts going threw the human brain. unfortunately these thoughts always lead to panic and death. in order to survive you need to be thinking about where you are going to go, and once you get there how you are going to fortify it. and is there going to be resources available there? is there going to be propper ammunition? the following is a very conciderable plan for a zombie atack. it is important to know what you are going to do ahead of time. remember that nearly everyone in a major city will be panicking.

STEP 1: put together a basic pack, including items like a water bottle, a compass, a flashlight (only use it if you are prepared for zombies to rally to you) signalling mirror dependable hiking boots, 2 pairs of socks, water purification tablets, wind / water proof matches, bandanna, map **, poncho, sleeping bag, sunglasses, palm sized first aid kit, swiss army knife, hand held comunication devices (if more than one person) with earpiece, large knife, binoculars*rimary fire arm (semi auto rifle) 50 rounds (if in a group, 30 per person) cleaning kit*, secondary weapon (.22 pistol, or a short sword like a machette) signal flares. all roups should also have a silenced weapon, extra ammo, scope, medium sized medical kit, short wave radio, crowbar and hammer (for building), water purification pump. MAKE SURE VERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY

STEP 2: transportation. public transit is out of the question. if it hasnt broken down already, the chances are great that there is a bitten victim on board and they are taking him/her to a hospital. you can take a car. although consider its fuel economy and excpect it to run out of gas or brake down. make your way to a gun shop and load up on ammo. this is extremely important because you will need it. once you have one this its time to move on. dont stay there. you will have panicked people coming and getting guns it is not safe.

STEP 3: take your vehicle and your group out into the country, less people less zombies. on your way stop at a grocery store and send 2 people into the store while you wait outside. protect your vehicle, chances are that there are people running away and hey will do anything to get a car. get the food as fast as you can. look for canned goods, potato chips, energy bars, granola bars, juice and plenty of bottled water (if you do not have a car then do not take all that, it will weigh you rite down) once you arrive at your house fortify it and stay put. it is not a good idea to reach loved ones, but if you are going to do so send out only part of your group at a time with a radio. this way you can contact them and they can contact you very easily. never go out after dark. when going out on sortes never take a full pack. take a primary fire arm, a secondary fire arm, water, a radio, binoculars (if you dont have a scope) and a hand weapon such as a machette.

STEP 4: you will be here a very long time. devise a schedule. if you have to go to the bathroom, 2 people go at a time. never go on your own. set up watch programs, shiftwork will improve rest of your team. make a signal on the roof to passing helicopters or other flying vehicles. organize your food, ration it if necessary. be prepared for your group to get very ancious and very roudy. find some means of entertainment. the elctricity will be out. but if you can get some sort of music or television, the sanity of your group will remain much more stable. books also work very well. consider explosives if possible. its a good idea to set up an alarm system perimiter so that way you have some warning before the ghouls get to you. if you fallow all of these steps you will have a pretty much garunteed survival. its important to realize what is happening, to come to terms that you will be here a long time and things will most likely get worse. your survival is the first thing you need to take care of.

*when concidering your stronghold, its best to find a place with plenty of room, there will most likely be others coming to your place. (we will talk about that later) a good way to fortify a 2 storry building would be to remove all inside doors except the door to one main room (in canse they brake through you have one last defence) go outside (if possible) and nail or bolt the doors over the windows and doorways, this wil provide a practically invincible sturcture to zombies. next get all your supplies (guns, food, water, etc.) upstairs. do not block the upstairs windows. onceyour enitre team is up the stairs, it is very important that you destroy the stairs after words. this way the zombies will not be able to reach you.

ways to tell if theres an outbreak

here are some ways to tell if an outbreak has occured.

1. if there is a press black out, this is often becuase the government is trying to cover something up and get it sorted out so that people will not panic.

2. if you here on the news of homocides where the victims have been shot in the head. or there is anything to do with biting.

3. the press will often blame attacks or attackers on a strand of mad cow disease or west nile.

if you are suspicious an outbreak has occured near you you MUST formulate a plan and get your equipment together. its important that you train yourself with your weapons and equipment so that you know what to do and how to use it.

preferable weapons

in a situation like this, humans (especially males) tend to take on an attitude similar to this: give me a chainsaw and i will lead the group. this is an excelent attitude if you are looking to get yourself killed. chainsaws are not good tools to use in this situation. in a large croud of zombies you are almost as likely to slip and cut yourself as you are to kill them.  the following is a tutorial on which weapons you should pick while on the move and defending a structure.

ON THE MOVE WEAPONS:

1. the standard carpenters hammer

this is a fairly good weapon of choice for a last resort in close combat. it has the potential to deliver a fatal blow on the first hit. unfortunatley it has limited reach which gives the zombie a chance to grab at your arm as you are swinging, this would prove to be a fatal event as the zombie owuld pull you in and bite you.

2. the axe

this weapon is favourable among lots of weapons. its sharp blade can decapetate a zombie or destroy the brain in one hit. but unfortunately, once you have swung this weapon it is extremely hard to bring back in time for another hit so the zombie has enought time to get close enough to you. alot of practice with this weapon and you will be able to deal with a few zombies at a time. this weapon is not a good choice if batteling alot of zombies.

3. the shovel.

do not use a snow shovel. they will slow you down. even a garden spade is not a very good idea. but it also has potential to deliver a fatal blow on the first hit. it would serve mediocer protection against zombies.

4. sword and shield combo

this is possibly the greatest set up in close combat fighting, this combat usually occurs when you are on the run. a one handed sword in your rite hand and a small shield in the other can prove to be a very effective weapon against zombies, if they are in the rite hands. you have to know what you are doing with these weapons otherwise they are useless. you have to train with them. remember, dont use these unless you have to. only have the sword strapped to your back so that you can run easier, same with the shield. have one with a strap allowing you to carry it on your back snuggly.

WEAPONS FOR DEFENDING A STRUCTURE

1. bolt action rifle

this weapon is both good and bad. it is only good if you have a solid defensive structure. it conserves ammunition as well as having the potential to deliver a fatal shot. it is a very accurate weapon, but not good for speed killing.

2. semi-auto rifle (picture unavailable)

this wepon is probably the very best for defendeing a sturcture as well as on the move as a ranged weapon. usually the gun can capacitate a magazine of 10 to 15 rounds and comes with spares. so this is an absolutely good combination. it can be reloaded quickly and is very reliable.

Syptoms (excerpt out of the ZHAP "incase of an outbreak" civillian survival guide)

SYMPTOMS

How do I know if I have been bitten?

The Solanum virus can only be spread through an open bite from a zombie to a human being. It can also be spread through a cut and some zombie blood or saliva enters the wound. The virus travels through the blood stream and is in no way curable. There have been some accounts of a victim being bitten in the finger and someone else chopping off the entire limb, and the victim lived. This is a near impossible chance, approximately a1 in 15 chance of survival if the limb is removed in the first 10 seconds. It then jumps to a 1 in 100 chance if the limb is removed after 20 seconds. After that the chances are very slim (any where less than 1 in a million would be ridiculous to assume)

The following is a time table of what will happen after a person has been bitten by a Solanum-infected zombie:

Hour 1: Pain and discoloration (brown-purple) around the wound

Hour 5: Fever (99-103 F). Chills, slight dementia, vomiting, acute pain in the joints.

Hour 8: numbing of extremities in the infected area. Increased fever (103-106F) increased dementia. Loss of muscle co-ordination.

Hour 11: Paralysis in the lower body, overall numbness, slowed heart rate.

Hour 16: Coma

Hour 20: Heart Failure. Zero brain activity. (Isolate immediately)

Hour 23: Re-animation. (Zombie)
