Five Year Plan

Personal Essay

My goals, professionally and in education for the next five years

Matthew Zollner

August 29th, 2006

Timeline:

August –December 2006:

Meet minimum requirement goals for PSS, Careers, and Technology

Receive letters of recommendation for my portfolio

Begin looking at scholarships and colleges

      January – May 2007:

Meet, or surpass, all graduation requirements for HTH

Locate a college from those available and prepare to apply

            Seek part time occupation

      August – December 2007:

            Complete required pre-requisite courses

            Manage budget for college/living

      January 2008 – January 2011:

            Complete basic medical studies

Begin specialized medical studies for my field of interest

Seek internship/part time job at a hospital

My goals in the next five years are based mainly on academic achievement. I am striving to graduate from my high school at the end of this school year, or the end of the following semester. During this time I mean to seek employment and begin a savings account. Also during this time I mean to find information about scholarships and complete as many as apply to me and my professional goals.

Upon graduation I will enroll the following semester in a college or university. Which one I select will be based on many factors including cost of living, places of residence, scholarships, and courses available. At first I will complete basic required courses which should take a few semesters at least. Afterwards I can begin medical classes, and as soon as I have adequate knowledge in the field I will apply for an internship at a hospital or medical facility.

After completing my basic medical courses I will be able to take specialized classes that are in my field of interests. I may need to relocate to a new College or University in order to find the proper classes. My interests lean towards pharmaceuticals and anesthesiology, which is a field that is seriously lacking in applicants. As a medical field it is very important and will not “go out of style” in the way that many other new professions are. It is very important to me to have a career that is stable and permanent. Nothing could be worse than dedicating your life to a study or skill and finding that it is difficult to find employment in that field.
