Zimbabwe, a Backstory

Zimbabwe is a Southern African country rich in tradition and culture. Unfortunately the country has had many issues. Including oppression under British colonization, and much more recently a corrupt ruler. Fifteen years ago life in Zimbabwe was a great place to live in. You could buy bread and milk for a week for less then ten dollars. The average life span being between sixty and seventy years. Now bread alone could cost ten dollars for two days. The average life span today is between thirty-four and thirty-seven years. More then 80% of the nation is in poverty.

Zimbabwe Today

Today Zimbabwe is directed by Robert Mugabe. He has been head of the nation for twenty seven years and seemed to be leading the county in a good direction at the start of his regime. He was given several honorary titles and was the subject of all praise.

In the last few years he has been marked the one of the worst human rights offenders in the world.

What can I do?

The nation is in a state of turmoil. Many religious and political leaders are campaigning to get Mugabe out of office and someone better into office. At this point the best we can do is to donate to the human rights associations working with Zimbabwe such as the ASAP Africa.
