Where I am...Alor Star, Kedah.

Alor Star, in the Northern state of Kedah, is where my wandering roots finally took hold...till today!

Ok...Now first of all, where is Kedah? It would be easier for you to locate it in the regional map at hoteltravel.com website. Thanks!

For a little info about Alor Star :

Looking at this map of the State of Kedah, one can easily find the location of Alor Star....

  Map sourced from http://www.hoteltravel.com/malaysia/maps.htm

The legendary island of Langkawi is at the upper left-hand corner.

Alor Star is home to several historical buildings - from traditional Malay wooden houses to Chinese shophouses, not forgetting colonial style buildings to futuristic architectures like that of the Menara Alor Star. Alor Star is hardly just concrete buildings. Lovely trees line the avenues, and gardens amidst beautifully renovated buildings are not unusual.

Alor Star is one of the oldest settlements in Malaysia and has several historical places worth visiting. This is where Alor Star first began... Now marked by a giant Keris, the ancient Malay dagger.

For a panaromic view, one can take a bubble lift up the Menara Alor Star ( Alor Star Tower aka Telecom Tower ) and view the city surrounded by paddy fields and greenery.  This is the main road   named Leburaya Darulaman, in the City, as seen at night.

And right in the city centre, you'll find this magnificent old mosque,  the Masjid Zahir, with a scenery as cool as this  right behind it. Next to the mosque is this quaint old Clock Tower :

Almost opposite to the mosque, you will find this quite modern water fountain...  built to commemorate the Sultan of Kedah's Jubilee.

The Holiday Villa Hotel,  seen here in the background, is just a few blocks from the water fountain. There, under the same roof, is located two popular shopping centres, namely City Point and City Plaza, with lots of shopping lots and eateries in air-conditioned comfort.
