When I started down the HRC path, I knew nothing of dogs, dog training, or handling dogs for that matter. What a journey it has been and what a feeling of accomplishment to receive the “Finished Title,” HRCH Zeke the Wonder Dog. As a rookie trainer and handler, Zeke the Wonder Dog passed 5 of 6 Finished tests, not a bad pass percentage. But if you have watched Zeke in action, you know its Zeke and his abilities who is responsible for that record.
While the accomplishment right feels fantastic in its own, it is the overcoming of adversity that makes the taste of success even sweeter. There was a time when I worried if Zeke would ever walk right again, let alone sprint through the mashes and uplands chasing feathers after his TPLO surgery. While Zeke always was a standout displaying heart and determination, I was worried if I could pull it together enough to get us to this level.
After 1000’s of hours training, hoping, and strategizing, HRCH Zeke the Wonder Dog obtained the finished title at 3 ½ years of age.
I’m proud of Mr. Wonder Dog, yet the key question at this time is, “what’s next?”!
