New pages!

Posted on 8/07/09

Okay, just a quick update. If you scroll down, you can see a significant change. Yes, the many posts that were made since the beginning of the site are gone. I have finally done it. I've made a news archive.

Now, if you look to your left, you will see a link to the said archive. Everything is there, from September 2008 to July 2009, with all the missed months in between. That's right, if you don't see January, March, April, or May...yeah.

Note: Yes, it took a very long time to go through every page to change the navigation, so I hopefully won't need to change it very soon...

Yes, Futurama returns...to FOX?

Posted on 8/06/09

Yes, I am back, still continuing to update as if I had viewers...but I keep the spirit (and the website) alive by that. But that's beside the point.

Some news about Futurama. You know it is returning, and originally to Comedy Central. But could it return back to FOX? Well, according to IGN FOX is thinking about it. Here are some snippets from the article:

When Comedy Central and 20th Century Fox announced that Futurama would be returning, the press release had an interesting section that read, "Twentieth Century Fox Television retains the option to license the original runs of the new episodes to a broadcast network." This opened the door for the brand new episodes to potentially air on any of the networks, should a deal be made, but the most obvious place this would happen was FOX.

"Well, it's going to do its run on Comedy Central first and [we'll] see how it fares,' implying FOX might consider airing the show again after Comedy Central."

"If we see a renaissance with the show -- it's a good show, we really like the show -- sure, that's not out of the equation [to air on FOX]."

- Quotes supplied by FOX's President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly

So FOX could bring Futurama back, even after they messed with time slots, canceled the series, and even threatened to fire the voice actors? It is a difficult side to take. On the bright side, there would be a larger number of viewers and of course better exposure. On the other side, it could end up canceled again. But, if it stays on Comedy Central and FOX, there is always Comedy Central to fallback on.

We'll have to see, I guess.

On another note about Futurama, there is news according to the new series! According to Maurice LaMarche (on his Facebook page) there is a table reading tomorrow for the first episode of the new season! Can't wait to see the finished thing.

IT IS BACK!

Posted on 8/01/09

Yeah, it's true, Futurama is returning. With all the voice actors. Or it is assumed, for Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, and Dave Herman were never in the original casting release. We'll just include them for now. This is great news. Here is our source.

From the Toronto Star (who was informed by our own Maurice LaMarche):

The Star has learned exclusively that the entire voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox after weeks of intense salary negotiations.

The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.

"We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already `gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters," Futurama creators Groening and David X. Cohen said in a joint statement.

Okay, so it is official. All of the voice actors are back. We can finally live in peace.

Now to wait the year for the new episodes. I'm so excited!

And possibly a feature film in the future?

And to celebrate this, I made a crude drawing, which is the thumbnail up there.

Just when everyone is finally excited...Fox ruins it again.

Posted on 7/19/09

I know it has been a while, but this is a very horrifying bit of news. FOX has put up a casting call for the cast of Futurama. Yes, they want to fill the positions with new voice actors. This is just ABSURD! Really!

FOX says it is a "salary disagreement." They are just using this, really, as a ploy to get the cast to work for less money. I hope this doesn't happen. I really do. I was so excited, and now it seems like FOX has struck again.

With Comic Con coming up this week, though, hopefully answers and the voice actors' thoughts will be said. Here is the original ad, and links below to some articles. I will update with this news, hopefully.

An Update on the Fan Stuff

Posted on 6/26/09

We have some new fan things to put up, well, two for now. First we have a new little fan fiction, the first actually mainly about Zoidberg, which is called Good Ole Rock-Paper-Scissors by a new author around the dumpster, Rush. Rush is also on Futurama Madhouseand PEEL and has written some great stuff, so go check him out there.

The second is just a bit of fan art from me featuring Fry on a skateboard, a scan from the episode The Cryonic Woman.

What? It is BACK?! HUZZAH!

Posted on 6/25/09

Yes, it is true, it is real, it is happening: FUTURAMA HAS RETURNED! 20th Century Fox has confirmed that they have ordered 26 new episodes of Futurama, or 2 seasons for mid 2010. This is again history. The fans spoke and supported, and we got what we asked for. Now we have all these new episodes to look foward to! What ideas will the creators, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen think of next? However crazy they'll be, we will love 'em. There is no doubt that Futurama is here to stay for a good amount of time.

Not only this, but they are showing Futurama episodes on MTV as well. Here is the press release from Comedy Central itself:

"FUTURAMA" RETURNS TO PRODUCTION WITH AN INITIAL ORDER OF 26 NEW EPISODES TO PREMIERE MID 2010

Emmy Award-Winning Animated Comedy Series Confirmed To Run On COMEDY CENTRAL; Broadcast Network Run Also Possible

NEW YORK, June 10, 2009 -- 20th Century Fox Television, the animation powerhouse that brought "Family Guy" back from the dead five years ago, has done it again: Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's brilliantly subversive animated sci-fi comedy "Futurama" will return to production on 26 new half-hour episodes more than six years after the series aired its last original episode. The move comes on the heels of the series' blockbuster performance on DVD and on COMEDY CENTRAL; the announcement was made today by Twentieth Century Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden, and David Bernath, senior vice president, programming for COMEDY CENTRAL.

"Futurama" was a staple of Fox's Sunday night animation block from 1999 to 2003 before ceasing production on original episodes. In June 2006, COMEDY CENTRAL acquired the rights to the existing 72 episodes of the series, which the channel began airing in January 2008, and four recently-produced extended length "Futurama" adventures: "Bender's Big Score," "The Beast with a Billion Backs," "Bender's Game" and "Into the Wild Green Yonder," which enjoyed enormous success both on COMEDY CENTRAL and in DVD release. This new deal marks the show's return to episodic series production on original episodes. "Futurama" becomes only the second series in the history of the medium to go back into production based on the strength of its DVD sales and repeat airings on cable.

The new episodes will be available in mid 2010 to be shown on COMEDY CENTRAL. Twentieth Century Fox Television retains the option to license the original runs of the new episodes to a broadcast network.

"We are excited to continue our relationship with Matt, David and 20th Century Fox TV and to be able to offer COMEDY CENTRAL viewers the first opportunity to see new episodes of 'Futurama,'" said Bernath. "As evidenced by the strong performance of the extended length epics, there remains a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience. It's fantastic that we can add brand-new installments of Leela, Fry and Bender's adventures to our existing library."

Quipped Matt Groening, "We're thrilled 'Futurama' is coming back. We now have only 25,766 episodes to make before we catch up with Bender and Fry in the year 3000." Added David X. Cohen, "We're excited and amazed that the show is coming back, perhaps due to some sort of mysterious time loop. We look forward to working with COMEDY CENTRAL and 20th Television to make this the best iteration of the loop yet!"

"When we brought back 'Family Guy' several years ago, everyone said that it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing - that canceled series stay canceled and cannot be revived," commented 20th Century Fox TV Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden. "But 'Futurama' was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back, and we couldn't have been happier when Matt and David agreed that there were many more stories yet to tell."

"Futurama" focuses on the life of Philip Fry (Billy West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a fresh start at life and a "diverse" new group of friends including Leela (Katey Sagal), a tough but lovely one-eyed alien and Bender (John DiMaggio), a robot who possesses human characteristics and flaws. The series aired for five seasons on Fox (1999 to 2003) earning Emmy® nominations each season while winning three times, including "Outstanding Animated Program" in 2002. It featured guest stars such as Sarah Silverman, Hank Azaria, Bob Odenkirk, Pamela Anderson, Beatrice Arthur, Lucy Liu, Beck and Coolio.

"Futurama," created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen, is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, with Rough Draft Studios, Inc. contributing the animation.

It...Is...Here!

Posted on 2/25/09

And I'm announcing it just a day later... Well, you heard me and many others that the fourth DVD movie, Into the Wild Green Yonder, is now out on the shelves for the U.S.! Next week is the release for the Australians, so you guys just hang in there. It will come. I have to wait two more days for my copy of the movie...It will come on Friday. Then I shall watch it. I can't wait, though. I know how you are feeling if you don't have it yet...

Since the few weeks before the release of the movie, there have been a few interviews with Matt Groening, David Cohen, and the cast. Here is another, which is interesting, because they have said the outlook looks good so far.

Q: David had said he has some ideas in his head if they do pick up more, so will everyone be on board?

Matt Groening: The great thing about Futurama is we were cancelled once, so we've experienced what it's like to think it's all over. [...] Futurama has kind of been an underdog show from the beginning. Fox didn't really understand it at first and then we found a great second home on the Cartoon Network and then a great third home now on Comedy Central, so I'm pretty happy.

Q: So do you think this will actually be like a Family Guy, where you can get it back on the air?

Matt Groening: We don't know. We're talking with Fox about doing more episodes and I hope we can. Just looking at the numbers, it seems to make sense. They're making money.

Q: So are the talks a little more serious now that these DVD's are making money?

Matt Groening: You know, I think every one, because we have another one, they say, 'Well, let's see how the next one does.' And because of the economy, we'll see. It's very easy for an executive to say no.

Q: Should we tell fans to send anything to Fox?

Matt Groening: No, no, no. You know, the first time Futurama went away, the fans were unbelievable. We had a petition that was 140,000 names that was delivered to Fox. That number may be way off, but I think it's very close. Hundreds of thousands of names, anyway. It just took awhile for them to realize that there was more to be done with Futurama.
PS. Thanks to JavieR from futurama point for posting the news on his site!

Tomorrow!!

Posted on 2/23/09

Man does the time go by fast! It is already the day before Into the Wild Green Yonder gets released for the United States and Region 1. (Yes, yes, if you are from the UK and already have it, I am, in fact, very jealous. ) It seems like just a few days ago Bender's Game came out, doesn't it? Then I was so anxious for the movie to come out...and of course it seemed like forever. But no! It is coming tomorrow! Of course, I won't get my copy for another two days or so, but at least I don't have to wait a week like last time...

In other news...there is a new article from totalfilm.com. So, Total Film talked with Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, Billy West, Lauren Tom, Maurice Lamarche, and Phil LaMarr. Here is an interesting quote that EVERY website has been using, basically:

"Q: It’s not finished…. Hopefully.

David X Cohen:The alien language during this episode’s opening credits reads, “The humans shall not defeat us!” It’s our nod to that.

Matt Groening: We would love to continue making more Futurama episodes in whatever form... Except Pogs.

I think we haven't even exhausted all the story ideas that we came up with back when the show started in '99.

David Cohen: Every morning, and I'm not making this up, I find myself thinking in the shower about the next episode that we'll do after this one. I have it mostly worked out, so we're ready to go if the call comes in.

There is a chance of it coming back as the DVDs sold well."
Sounds promising...I hope that they find a way back to our beloved televisions!

Fan Comic!

Posted on 2/19/09

It has been a while, but MissusPatches is back, this time with a new fan comic titled, First Date. It is about Leela and Bender on a date, and if you have been following her art, then you will get it more. It is a short 5-page comic, so enjoy it, because it is filled with some funny things, great drawings, and excellent colorings.

Remember, you can send any fan art and stuff to me at smarty.zd@gmail.com, and visit the Contact Us page for more information.

Bender In a Museum...Really?

Posted on 2/18/09

Yes, it is possible! Bender can be in the Robot Hall of Fame! Although, in the show, it would be more like the Robot Hall of Infamy. But, it is true. You, yes YOU, can nominate Bender to be in the Robot Hall of Fame. Sound's interesting? Well, go and nominate Bender to be the best robot around! I think it would be great for the show's publicity and intrest as well. Go, and beat Maillardet's Automaton! (Whatever that is...)

Animus-Imperium Serum

Seven days until the release of Into the Wild Green Yonder!!! I can't wait for it, especially to hear the commentary and watch it over, and over, and over, and so many times so I annoy my sister... But, anyway, the countdown continues! BUY THE DVD ALREADY!

Also, I have part two to my fan fiction, Darkness Prevailing. That is where the title came in. If you know any latin, maybe you can figure out what may happen in the next part. It is a shorter part, but it is packed with some twists and turns and cliffhangers that are really short-lived, so read it! OR ELSE. Just kidding...or am I?

It...is...DONE!

Posted on 2/16/09

It is done! It is finished! What am I talking about? I finished fixing all of the pages of the site. If you don't believe me, go check them out. Now you can have a smooth transition from page to page. In addition to that, I also changed the font and just some of the layouts, so check them out. I'm glad that is over. I got lazy for so long, but tonight I buckled down and went right down the list of pages and just updated. It was just a lot of copying and pasting...PHEW!

There are also comments now at the bottom of the page. This format probably won't be permanent, because it takes so long to load, but they will do until now. Seymour_My_Hero from P.E.E.L. requested it in a way. That way, you can easily keep in touch with me through comments, and comment a lot easier on the site.
