First Strike is a mod for BF2142 bringing the Star Wars universe to life like never before! Take part in huge 64 player battles online, either in First Person Shooter style maps or in space combat battles flying fighters or piloting a Gallofree transport to safety. Space combat battles allow you to pilot capital ships or man the ships turret positions. BF2142's engine allows you to form squads with friends giving you the ability to use VOIP instead of typing when you want to send a message. This is the game STAR WARS fans have been waiting for! Play as a Storm Trooper and prevent the Rebels from reaching the bunker on Endor, try to storm Mos Espa on Tatooine or play as an Imperial Tie Fighte pilot and launch from a Star Destoyer.

FIRST STRIKE SETUP AND INSTALLATION

First Strike is a mod for BF2142, that means you must have a valid copy of BattleField 2142 in order to run this game. You will need to download the following files, do NOT install anything, follow the instructions after the links!:

INSTALLATION

Once you have downloaded these files you can begin installing BF2142, after it has installed you will need to install the patches. These must be installed in order as they do not contain previous patches, (so 1.06 does not contain 1.01). DO NOT INSTALL PATCH 1.40!

Once you have patched BF2142 up to 1.25, then install First Strike. Once you have installed First Strike, then you can install the BF2142 Patch 1.40.

CREATING ACCOUNTS

Once everything is installed, launch FirstStrike. If you have not played BF2142 before you may be asked to create an EA account. This can be ANY name you want, this account can hold multiple ‘soldier’ profiles which are used in game. Once you have registered with EA you can continue on in to the game.

The next screen will ask you to create a ‘soldier’ profile. This should be your TRA name, you do not need to add TRA to this name! At the top of the box that holds all the soldier profile names is a small area that says Clan Tags, here you can put in TRA, now when you start a game you will always have TRA in front of your name when in game.

OPTION SETUP AND JOYSTICK INSTALLATION

You should now be logged in to a soldier profile and have some menu choices on the left hand side. The first thing to do is check your options, make sure everything is set correctly in the video options, and ensure that ‘viewing distance’ is set to 100.

If you wish to use a joystick go to the control options. Along the top of the main screen you will see an option for aircraft, click that tab. Now, select an axis (pitch etc) and push your joystick in that direction to set the axis, and remap any buttons as you would like them set.

NOTE: Some craft have a boost (press Shift) as yet there is no way to map this to JS.

GAME CREATION

There is currently NO single player campaign in FS, though there is a singleplayer minimod, this guide will not deal with this minimod as it is a separate file and installation.

To join a server, click on multiplayer and online. You will not see any servers yet, you will need to press advanced on the top of the server screen, then make sure all boxes are deselected EXCEPT ‘same mod’ and ‘same version’. Click refresh and you should now see a list of servers, click one and join the fun!

FINDING FRIENDS

There is an option to add ‘buddies’ so you can see who is online and join them in a server. In the bottom left of your screen (in main menu) you will see a buddy list. Type in the name of someone you would like to add then press search. A window will come up of people with that name (if more than one) select the one you think it may be. It will create a join request window, you can add a message here such as “Its me from TRA!”. When they approve your request you will be able to see them in the buddy window.

When you see a buddy online, click the blue box near their name, you can then send them a message or join them on the server they are currently playing.

COMMON PROBLEMS

I cant see any servers

Make sure you click advanced then check that only ‘same mod’ and ‘same version’ are ticked.

I get kicked from servers for modified files!

You may have installed the patches incorrectly. Re-install patch 1.25, then FirstStrike, then FS 1.1 patch, then BF2142 1.40 patch and try again. If you still have problems you will need to uninstall FS and BF2142, then re-install following the instructions at the start.

I want to try my stick settings without going online

There is no SP, but you can try them out. Click on multiplayer, then on local. Now create a local server and select which map you would like. It will load and you can fly around, but you wont have any opponents!

I tried to play single player but it crashes, there is a map in there!

There is a map in the single player, but the SP aspect of the game has not been completed. That’s why you crash to desktop!
