Welcome to the website: Sleeping with the Angels: A Spiritual Journey through Schizophrenia

It is my pleasure to introduce this manuscript to you. It has been written with a lot of research, love and care. It has been written from the depth of my seven years experience with schizophrenia, in the hope to help afflicted people, family members and friends but also in order to interest the wider community of mental healthcare workers, from psychiatrists to nurses and other therapists.

Schizophrenia affects 2% of the world population. Mental Health Care issues are on the rise world wide. Traditional medicine still treats schizophrenia and other mental wellness issues in bio-medical terms. The rich inner life of the experience is ignored by what is referred to as 'school' psychiatry.

This book is written from the inside of schizophrenia. It is intended to lay open the rich inner life of this experience with its imagery, mythological and spiritual signification. Schizophrenia is an indivduation process, filled with the rich experience of the deep structures of the psyche. May this book help in approaching schizophrenia for what it is, not primarily an illness,  but a deep transformation process of the Self. May this book help in fostering a loving understanding of this profound process which not only affects the afflicted but also family members and friends.

This book is also written in the hope that traditional psychiatry may change and open its heart to the signification of schizophrenia and its rich inner life, that psychiatry again becomes concerned with issues of human dignity and signification.
