The YHS Drama Department Presents “The Wiz”!
“Ease on Down the Road” and reserve a seat for the Ypsilanti High School’s spring musical, The Wiz, 7:30 p.m. May 1 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 2.
This presentation of the Broadway and film spectacular promises to be an entertaining event from the sassy arrangement of Evillene’s theme song “Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News” to the uplifting soulful “Everybody Rejoice.” The moment Dorothy leaves Kansas there’s no lull in the dialogue, music or action in this remake of the classic film The Wizard of Oz, based on the children’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum.
Karen Siegel, YHS drama teacher and director of the musical, is excited about staging this dynamic production.
“We have some incredibly talented students who have proved that they can sing and dance their way down the yellow brick road and beyond,” Siegel said. “This is the perfect musical to showcase their acting, singing and dancing maturity.”
Siegel is also pleased to have Sara Randazzo of Randazzo Dance Studio, on board to choreograph The Wiz, as well as the support of her colleagues in the Performing Arts Department.
“Sara is one of our community gems and I’m thrilled to have her overseeing the dance scenes. I also have the full support of our YHS music director Elizabeth Patterson who is devoting countless hours to perfecting the vocalists’ presentation. The pit band is another important component and YHS band director Matt Kazmierski has put together a talented group of students to keep the punch in the performance,” Siegel said.
