Youth Group in Miramichi
On Fridays we also have youth group at the River of Life church which is on 345 Beaverbrook Road. Click
here for a map. We've only had it a few times so far and its new so not too many people know about it, therefore we encourage everyone and anyone to come. At our last meeting we spent the night playing guitar hero, getting to know some new people, eating some awsome food and singing songs.
Youth Christmas Party
Next Wednesday, December 17, 2008, we will be having a potluck Christmas party for Youth. It will start an hour early so we have time to eat. 6-9. Everyone can bring a dish to eat or some sweets or desserts, whatever you want. Everyone also has to bring a wrapped gift valued no more than $5 for a yankee gift swap!
30 Hour Famine
The 30 hour famine went great. Over
$1000 was raised for World Vision between us and the other youth groups that participated. The first activity we did was to get into groups and go to the grocery store to buy food, and no we couldn't eat it! We had to buy enough food to feed a family of four 3 meals for one day that included all four food groups, and with only $20. It wasn't an easy task, and I think a lot of us realized how hard it must be for some people to afford to feed their families. Another activity we did was that we were put in a situation where we had only so much income, and it wasn't enough to afford transportation, food, education etc, and we basically had to decide what we were going to go without. It wasn't an easy decision to make, and the different situations and stories different groups had were taken from real families. It was a great experience for everyone and I'm sure it opened up a lot of peoples eyes to how serious poverty really is and made us realize how lucky we really are. Along with that we also met a lot of awesome people, made some new friends, had a great time and most likely will never enjoy french toast again as much as we did the next morning.
