UPWBDA ANNUAL ALL BREEDS YOUNGSTOCKS SHOW 2008

Get on the 'road to recovery' and bring your youngsters to Youngstocks!                  MONDAY MAY 5, 2008

IMPORTANT:  Please note that we have changed the previously advertised date from the Sunday of the long weekend to the Monday - the All Breeds Youngstocks Show is now on Monday May 5 (this was to avoid a clash with the Arabian Challenge in Toowoomba so that our competitors with AHSA registered youngsters were able to do both shows)

Note, in mid March, more classes were added - Clydesdales and Miniature Horses and Small Horses are now feature sections thanks to generous sponsorship.  There are also Irish Sport Horse events on the programme.  Quarter Horse, Paint and Paintbred are also expanded sections thanks to sponsorship.

UPDATE (Sunday March 23): Youngstocks will be held at the Gatton Show Grounds on Monday May 5, 2008.  The latest updates from Biosecurity indicate that ALL HORSES REGARDLESS OF E.I. OR VACCINATION OR MICROCHIP STATUS ARE NOW FREE TO COMPETE AT EVENTS IN S.E.QLD.  This means that if your horse has not yet been vaccinated/microchipped or blood tested/microchipped, your horse is still eligible to compete at events.  I have copied and pasted the details from the DPI Biosecurity update below so that you can read and verify for yourself that ALL horses are now free to travel and compete in South Eastern Qld.

This show is for registered horses aged three and under. Nominations with horse and owner details will only need to be in ten days prior to the event OR you can leave nominations/entries until the day and pay double for the first event ($24 not $12) and all other fees and entries ($6 per class) remain the same BUT there are no late nominations for the futurities.  If you pre-nominate, we are asking for horse owner and details as well as payment for the first event and any futurity nominations and payments.  The remainder of event nominations/payments can be made on the day. No late futurity nominations.

This year's programme is still being finalised as we needed to wait for these recent DPI changes to showing regulations so we could include the correct information in the programme and entry forms.  We apologise for the delay in getting the programme out.

This show is run by the South Queensland Branch of UPWBDA and is for all registered breeds and colours of horses and ponies.

Vaccinations not necessary for events

“As we move closer to eradicating EI, event organisers no longer need to discriminate against EI susceptible horses.”

That’s the message from Equine Influenza Eradication Project Vaccination Manager, Dr Philip Chamberlain.

The message comes in response to high numbers of vaccination applications.

“Although vaccination applications have closed we have had a number of applications from competitors who have been told they must be vaccinated to attend events," he said.

“One Pony Club in particular has told its members that it will not accept entries from susceptible horses until the end of 2008.

“This kind of precaution is simply not necessary given that there are currently no active infected properties in Queensland.”

Dr Chamberlain added that as all recovered and vaccinated horses approach the end of their immunity period there is little risk in having horses of different status mix, and no need to discriminate against susceptible horses.

“There is currently no EI in Queensland and therefore no need for new vaccinations. We have reason to be confident in relaxing our movement restrictions and conditions on event organisers so we urge all event organisers to share in this confidence.”

Permit numbers not needed when attending events

The process for attending events across south east Queensland is becoming simpler as the DPI&F moves closer to its goal of eradicating equine influenza.

As of 28 February competitors attending events will no longer need to write their approved event permit number on their travel waybill.

Infection Control Manager Les Howard said competitors should simply complete their waybill as if they were undertaking any other movement.

He added that competitors attending events in another zone or interstate should first apply for an individual movement permit.
