SHARLSTON COLLIERY(nr Wakefield) PAGE 1

Sharlston colliery, also known as Walton colliery, was situated near Wakefield in west yorkshire.

The colliery employed around 2,200 men and mainly worked the Top haigh moor seam.

Other seams worked at the pit included, the low high moor, kent thick and the lidgett seams.

The colliery closed in the 1990s under the ownership of BCC.
