The following information and pictures are from the former kilnhurst colliery and were sent to me by james williamson who worked at the mine.

Mine cars that were filled underground then transported underground to the nearby manvers main colliery, all of Kilnhurst,s coal came out at Manvers. In the background are the pit head baths.

The next few pictures show various buildings on the mine surface, including the fitting shops and the blacksmits.

The next items were sent to me by Kev Pattison, a former miner from the Nottinghamshire Coal Field. They show some of his training records, Kev wrote the following,

I started work as a mining apprentice in November 1967 at Lound Hall Training Centre and did a three and a half year apprentice at Lound Hall and Bilsthorpe doing odd days at the Mansfield Colliery. The majority of my underground and surface training was done at Bilsthorpe Colliery. I did my underground training on a hand got face then onto a treppaner face. They were called T1's and T2's, after that I spent the rest of my working life at Bilsthorpe working on faces and headings until 1984 when I asked to go on the Deputies course and passed. I did that until 1983 when an injury underground forced me to retire, by this time I had done 24 years service and would not have missed one day of it. Unfortunately just after leaving in 1993, three work colleagues were killed in a roof fall due to skin to skin working. The comradeship will never be found in any other industry like we enjoyed in the mines.
