HATFIELD COLLIERY

Hatfield main colliery was sunk in 1911 and the Barnsley bed of coal reached in 1916 at a depth of 857 yards. Seams worked included the Barnsley seam, Kents thick and the high hazel. Annual output was around 655,000tons per year. The colliery was closed in 1993 by the NCB but reopened again by bcc shortly after, it then became the property of Richard budge but has been closed since 2002.

The company now intends to reopen the mine during 2007.
