Corey's Stuff

It's what I love...

Navigation:

Leathercraft is a hobby I undertook a couple of years ago...  I work a lot and my other interests take up most of  my spare time, so I don't get to do as many projects as I'd like.  Consequently I still consider myself pretty new at it and I think my stuff's still a little rough - but I'm getting better and  learning the skills to create professional looking finished products.

BUT some people have told me I do pretty good work - and some of them are professional leather crafters.
So...  Since I respect these folks and am unafraid of undertaking a project, if you see something you like - or have a dream of something made of fine leather - and haven't another source to obtain such an item, e-mail me at yorec30@hotmail.com and we can discuss it.  I can't promise you that what I turn out will be perfect, but I'll do my best.  And what I turn out will be functional - first and foremost!  Cost is no object to me, 'cause you will have to foot the bill on the materials, lol.  But have no fear I won't charge ya an arm and a leg on a profit for me either!  I'm looking to learn here - so give me a try.  You may be pleasantly surprised.

Here's some pics of a rifle sling I did for a birthday present.  It shows leather carving, stitching, two-tone dying, and finished coat.  Kinda hard to see the tooling because of the darkness of the leather dye, but the upside is that no matter what you want, it'll look and be better than this - the real thing shows up better in person and I get better with every project!  (Yeah, some of the stitches are a bit crooked - told ya I'm still learning and this is done by hand.  In short - not my best work, but the birthday boy sure seemed pleased!)

Cowboy Action Shooting stuff...
Check out these cowboy cuffs I made a while back,  The eagles are mine and the roses my wife's.  Like I pointed out before, I'm learning - but I'm pretty happy with these!

The Eagle cuffs are fastened by strap and buckle and are made with a heavy 10 oz leather.  They are dyed dark brown.  The flash not being set just right really made the pic darker than I'd like, but ya can see 'em!

The metal studs at permanently mounted , but the eagle heads have a screwback and could be replaced with any other similar concho I'd like.  But I think I stick with these - I like 'em!

The Rose cuffs are fastened with snaps and are made of a lighter leather, about 7 oz, which is why the left one appears to have a wrinkle.  It is a bend in the leather - a natural thing with lighter leather like this.  But worn - it come out and looks just a stiff as the heavier cuffs.  They are dyed Mahogany with a swirled stain pattern that I especially liked.  The flash level was much more accurate...

For those that may not know - these are worn on the wrists over a long sleeve shirt as part of old west attire commonly worn as Cowboy Action Shooting matches.  They were historically used by cowboys as a wrist support in case of a fall from horseback.  Also helped keep the gunfighter's shirt sleeves from catching on things as he went for his hawgleg, I'd imagine!

Want a pair?

Hatband

Here's a hatband I did for another birthday
present.   Haven't heard how well he liked it yet, but I'd bet the report will be positive!

I think I'll have to do one of these for myself and another for the wife...

Sometimes the easiest projects make the best impact and hatbands are good examples of that!

These things are simple, but look pretty cool as far as I'm concerned!

I also tan hides.  Have a little more experience at that then tooling!

But raw leather isn't very photogenic and the process thakes so many forms that I'm afraid there just isn't room enough to cover it all...

So, here's an excellent site on the subject.  I think what isn't known by this group of tanners has been lost in the mists of time forever!  Braintan.com  Good stuff and great site!
