Youth Empowerment for Development Ministries (YEDEM) International is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation and focuses as its target beneficiaries Children and Youths with special emphasis on the girl child, ex-combatants (children and youths), unskilled, unemployed and underdeveloped youths.

Membership is open to All!

We hope to see the establishment of YEDEM all over the world. In this light, we are looking out for Volunteers - young people with strong leadership experience  who can set up a YEDEM Chapter in their Countries.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER & GENERAL OVEERSEER

Sylvanus got involved in Youth Leadership role in his church and community as early as 1992. In 1998, he got a vision to establish an umbrella youth organisation that will cater for the spiritual and physical needs of young people in Sierra Leone and beyond. He shared the vision with other dynamic and dedicated youths. That was how the Youth Empowerment for Development Ministries (YEDEM) International was founded. YEDEM International is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation seeking to address the welfare of young people in Sierra Leone and beyound. Since then, Sylvanus has been actively involved in youth work at national and international levels.

He has working relationship working with several youth organisations in Sierra Leone including umbrella youth organisations such as the Independent Youth Forum (IYF), National Youth Multi-purpose Cooperative Society (NYMCOS), Youth For Christ (YFC), etc. and affiliated with over 15 International youth organisations including the World Assembly of Youth, Youth Link, TeamCE, National Network of Youth Ministries (NNYM), International Youth Development (IYD), Youth Fire, Pastor2Youth, Youth Noise, TakingITGlobal (TIG), Mandate The Future (MTF), Youth Employment Summit (YES), Kabissa, Global Resource (GR), Youth Reach, Global Youth Action Network (GYAN), We Care Too, Earth Charter, International Youth Parliament (IYP)etc.

Sylvanus is the Coordinator of TakingITGlobal Sierra Leone Network (TIG-SLN). He coordinates and promote TIG activities in the country. He is also a Graphic Designer, presently working with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL). He holds Diploma in Softwre and Hardware Engineering, Certificate in Finance & Administration. He first got an employment experience with the Christian Literature Crusade (CLC) Bookshop in Sierra Leone, an international organisation operating in 52 countries with Headquarters in the UK.

Sylvanus also coordinates the Earth Charter Youth Group (ECYG) in Sierra Leone. The ECYG is an initiative of the Earth Charter Youth Initiative (ECYI). ECYGs are working to establish a sound ethical foundation for the emerging global society and to help building a sustainable world based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Due to his hard work, he was appointed to serve in the Earth Charter Youth Initiative (ECYI) Core-group. The core-group is made up of five individuals from all over the world. Tasks of the core-group are as follows:  Coordinate and prioritize the activities of the Earth Charter Youth Initiative. · Communicate and provide support and information to other interested youth around the world. · Answer youth queries. · Formulate tools and resources to assist youth around the world. · Provide opinions on youth issues to major youth initiatives such as the UN Youth Caucus.

Sylvanus is also coordinating the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) National Youth Activities in Sierra Leone. In September 2003, a national workshop dubbed, National Interactive Forum was held at the British Council office in Freetown and took over the national radio waves for interactive phone-in talk programmes on the Information Society. He attended the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) that was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Because of his hard work and the impact created during the WSIS activities in Sierra Leone, he was included in Sierra Leone's Government Delegation to the Summit!  He has travelled to different countries attending major youth conferences, both in Africa and Europe. Some of those countries visited so far by Sylvanus are Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Sudan, Belgium and Switzerland.
