Young Christians Fighting for America

A Light in the Midst of Darkness

Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly does YCFA operate?

For a thorough understanding of how YCFA conducts its operations, see the link to the Constitution on the left.

Why are only home educated students allowed?

Because the Bible mandates homeschooling (II Corinthians 6:14-15; Proverbs 9:10; Amos 3:3; Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Jeremiah 10:2, and 1 Corinthians 15:33), only home educated students are allowed to become members of YCFA.  Anything less demonstrates a lack of Biblical understanding.  If a young person does not have a biblical view of education, it is very unlikely that he will have a biblical view of politics or other issues of our time.

Government school students are excluded, because the education in those institutions are secularized; in addition, Christian school students are excluded, because we believe so-called Christian education within these schools tends to be secularized (see test results from www.nehemiahinstitute.com). Both of these forms of education are inherently unbiblical, because they don't provide one-on-one parental instruction in accordance with the education mandate in Deuteronomy 6:7. However, exceptions for YCFA membership are granted to these students on a case-by-case basis.

Why are women not allowed in leadership?

Women are not allowed to become President or Vice President of this organization in accordance with 1 Timothy 2:11-12.  However, it is acceptable for them to become Executive Administrator or Publications Manager.

Why can women be EA or PM?

Women are permitted to be executive administrator and publications manager in accordance with the biblical parallel of a husband and wife relationship (I Corinthians 11:3).  The wife's duty is to assist the husband but not userp authority over him.(1 Timothy 2:12) In like manner the EA and PM are not leadership positions, but play an assistant role to the President and Vice President.

Why is it only ages 12-21?

The minimum age was chosen to be 12 because that was the age that Jesus first began 'going about his Father's business."  The maximum age was decided because it is commonly accepted that at that age a young adult officially becomes an adult.

How long have you been organized?

YCFA was formed in January of 2006.

How did YCFA begin?

The concept for Young Christians Fighting for America was first thought of in November of  2005. Jessica Raymond had known Jonathan Bartlett through his newsletter The Dakota Times , and she shared with him the first drafts of her idea of a Christian group of homeschoolers somehow positively influencing the United States governmental system. Jonathan liked the idea, and he contacted two people that he knew would be interested in helping: Cole Adema and Zach Engelhart, whom Jonathan also new through the Dakota Times. From January 2006 until June 2006, the four Executives discussed via an online forum the details of how the organization would be run, and clarified the specific goals that the YCFA would strive to accomplish.
Many times, rules were changed and altered as the YCFA began to take shape. Three or four different names were considered for the organization, but in the end, Young Christians Fighting for America  was unanimously agreed upon. Zach kept a record of all the changes so he could write up a final list of rules, hence the YCFA Constitution. Logo designs were changed, revised, and gotten rid of, and after the tenth drawing, the four Executives came up with the current YCFA emblem, drawn by Jessica's younger sister. Jessica wrote the YCFA statement of faith, based upon the Apostles' Creed, as well as other points the Bible holds to be true. The idea for the YCFA Report was entirely thought of by Jonathan, and he became responsible for the Report as well as the YCFA's website. Through everything, Cole made sure everything ran smoothly and according to plan, and he also finalized the layouts for the YCFA letterheads, constitution, and faith statement. By August 2006, the Executives were ready to announce the YCFA officially open for members.

Is YCFA linked to a certain denomination?

No.  However, YCFA members adhere to a faith statement that can be found at the "Join" link on the left.

Does YCFA give away Membership Scholarships?

YCFA does not currently give away memberships.  However, individual cases may considered by the Executives.
