Transformation of the Yates County Fair Continues
This July, Yates County will be celebrating its 169th Annual County Fair. Our community has always taken pride in the traditions that have been carried out for so many years. The need for changes to the fair and its facilities, however, have become the major focus this year, and the motivation of the Fair Board. The decision to improve and update the facility and events over the next few years has become a key factor in planning for the Fair’s future.
The Yates County Fair is one of the only community amusements left in the area. Knowing this, Board Members have agreed the goals of upgrading the facility and the events are necessary to keep fairgoers coming back each year. Last year we had a record crowd of over 8,000 people.
The Yates County Agricultural Association, which puts on the Fair each year, is an independent organization which is given no annual financial support by a governing body. Therefore, the fair relies on community involvement in its sponsorship program in order to keep it going year to year. The Association gives huge thanks to its current sponsors. Unfortunately, less than 10% of area businesses and organizations currently support the Fair financially. Plans of making the necessary changes to the yearly event depend on the donations received. Many thanks go to the Fair Board Volunteers and all the Sponsors.
The members, workers, and businesses determined to increase the Fair’s success have been busy this year planning and starting to make changes that will become very apparent to the community over the next few years. We are excited to announce some new act’s this year including; Monster Truck Rides, Live Bear Act, Live Band, Diesel Truck Pull, Pet Show, Community Yard Sale, & more! Stop by for a drink in our New Beverage Pavilion. Future goals of the Fair include necessary repairs and improvements to the facility as well as upgrades of the entertainment, activities, and exhibits. Such improvements include electrical upgrades, building repairs, fence repairs, as well as overall maintenance. Pull up a seat in the new bleachers, set along the new track for The Penn Yan Tractor Pull: “Thunder in the Hills” which will take place Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at five o’clock pm.
The Yates County Fair will be held July 8th – 12th, 2008 this year at it’s grounds in Penn Yan. Be sure to look for our advertisements and schedule of events.
