Pre-Conference Materials

Pre-conference materials on youth volunteerism will be sent out to participants prior to the conference. The content of the materials covers:

• What is volunteerism and community service?
• Current trend of youth volunteerism in Singapore
• Compulsory CIP in schools for school students
• Misconceptions of volunteerism
• Why should youths volunteer?
• How to volunteer?
• Past community projects done by other youths

Before starting out doing volunteer work, it is good for participants to first understand the needs of the community. Hence, materials on pertinent social issues related to Singapore will also be prepared for the participants’ reference. The social issues include:

• Juvenile delinquency
• Family violence
• Teenage pregnancy
• Singapore’s disabled community

To facilitate the reading of the materials by the participants, each section/article will begin with a summary and thinking points for the participants to reflect on.
