Balandžio 20 d. 2003 metais per pirmąsias MotoGP serijos varžybas "Suzuka" žiede Japonijoje, trečiajame rate, 130R posūkyje važiuodamas didesnius nei 200km/h greičiu DAIJIRO KATO trenkėsi į apsauginį barjerą ir buvo skubiai išvežtas į ligoninę. Medikai dėjo visas pastangas, kad išgelbėtų vieną ryškiausių, motociklų pasaulio, kylančią žvaigždę ir gal būt būsimą pasaulio "karališkosios" klasės čempioną- Daijiro Kato. Dvi savaites išbuvęs komos būsenoje, 00:42 balandžio 20d. Kato paliko mus.

Everyone, including Daijiro Kato's fans, have been praying for as quick a recovery as possible and it is truly heartbreaking that he has left us. Our deepest condolences are with Daijiro Kato's family and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of Kato's fans who were so supportive of him.
Valentino Rossi : race win "We worked very had over the winter to get a good race rhythm we actually did five full race simulations to make sure the life of the tyre is good. At the beginning of the race we had a good fight with Biaggi and Capirossi. I think it is possible to go a little bit faster so I go. I make the 8-hours here so 21 laps for me is easy! The win for me here is good. It is special for Honda and 25 points for me at the beginning of the championship is important. But after hearing about Kato nothing is very important."
