PC Maintenance

For Home or Office

Welcome graphic

Welcome to my website and I'll be glad to share my PC repair knowledge with you and add links to Free software that will help keep your PC running like new.

Just remember....if it aint broke....don't fix it

*If you find a link that is broken please send me an e-mail HERE and I'll fix it immediately...sometimes the reference page gets reset*

I also made the links all open up on the same page as not to clutter your task bar when you click on them. All you have to do is hit your 'Back' button to get back to this page or
click on a link that is on the left of the page.

Please Note: Some of these free products only work with Windows XP

Some friends have said that internet explorer slows down after surfing for awhile. One thing I do on a regular basis is reboot my PC daily. That cleans out the cache. I leave my PC on 24 hours a day, so the rebooting helps alot, I do it whenever things get a bit sluggish. I'm including a link to another free software that will clean out your cookies and temporary internet files. This is called Crap Cleaner and it does just that. You analyze what junk has added up on your PC and then click on Run. You'll be amazed at how much crap you will be deleting. The 1st time you run it, it will take awhile. But it gets faster the next time you use it. I do this once a week. Also, I would suggest to check for up-dates once a week.

Crap Cleaner Slim (no Yahoo Toolbar) An excellent free tool to get rid of cookies and excess junk on your PC.

When buying a new PC, some salesmen NEVER seem to tell you about all the spyware and adware problems that you you should fix BEFORE you get on-line and Critical windows up-dates as well as a good firewall and anti-virus are the most important things to do when going on-line , so if you follow my maintenance guide, you should have a great on-line experience.

***NOTE: be sure to install some or all of the free spyware programs I suggest and be sure to up-date them before you run spyware checks with them***
The first thing I do with a Brand new PC is uninstall ALL of the trial programs, AV, firewall etc....then install the free ones listed on this site. A no MUSS no FUSS way to keep your PC running great for a long time at NO extra charge to you. (I ONLY recommend this for Home Use though...)

If you use your PC in a business I would suggest you get the Paid Internet Security of your choice, there are many to choose from. Do some google searches and read the user reviews

NOTE:
This webpage is MY personal opinion only.
I have worked on many PC's and this is what I feel. McAfee and Norton (Symantec) are usually bundled into new PC's and are free for the first 6 months. Then after that, either you pay for renewal or you DON'T get virus or firewall up-dates. The 1st thing I do is uninstall those products because they tend to slow down your PC by using too many resources, and then add the free products I have listed below. In 5 years, I've never had a problem with the free software I've listed and my PC has been running great ever since. Those name brand pay softwares listed at the beginning are being bundled in new PC's to make people think you HAVE to have them....WRONG! But because it is a free world....it's totally up to you. If you have money to burn, go for it....use their software! All I know is that I've removed those name brand softwares on many machines because of all the errors they had and have never looked back.

    ACTUAL FACT!
I helped a friend with his (new Toshiba laptop 4 months old) and it was a mess! They had never told him to install a firewall, but they did get him to buy Norton 2005 anti-virus. So needless to say, he was on high speed DSL and the laptop was jammed with spyware and viruses. I up-dated his Norton and scanned and it found a few viruses. It took me 6 total hours to scan and remove all the Spyware and viruses (over 300 viruses) and the PC was still getting errors. So I downloaded Avast and uninstalled Norton. Avast found another 15 viruses that Norton missed and now the laptop again runs like new with no errors.
Oh, I also installed the free Sygate Firewall. Now I install Comodo Pro free firewall.
Who says free is not good?
