I am sorry to say that my mum and I had to have him put to sleep this morning. At 15 years old he has had a great life taking me to crufts so many times and winning so many rossette. I am going to miss him so much. ive with and he always brings fun to my life when we go out. I first got interested in Obedience in 1994 when I was 8 years old as my mum had always taken me to dog shows as a little girl. One show had KCJO Class which at the time stood for (Kennel Club Junior Organisation) I can remember standing there watching all the other children working their dogs and I said to my mum I want to do that. From there on it started and my mum started to train me to do Obedience with her dog Luke. Luke was 5 years old when I started working and training him in obedience and he was not the easiest dog to learn from. He was so full of energy (and still is). In 1995 I started competing with Luke at exemption shows but not getting any places. In 1996 I started to get placed at exemption shows and when the places got higher my mum entered me in an open show in the KCJO class Test Of Obedience we got some places but most of all we enjoyed the day out together. As the years went on Luke and I started to work better as a team and in October 1997 we went to a very important Championship show to try and qualify for Crufts. Luke worked his socks off but we were just out of the places to be in the team and ended up as reserve. I was very proud to be Reserve as it was a great achievementfor Luke and I at 10 years old. Then in October 1998 we went back to the same show and worked even harder to get in the top placing and we did. I couldn’t believe that I had qualified for Crufts in the KCJO competition. In march 1999 Luke and I went to Crufts and worked together with 3 other girls in my team we ended up 3rd place overall as a team. I was so happy to have made it to Crufts and to be place for the first time. Then each year I went back to that show in October to try again for the next Crufts and sure enough we did it and qualified for Crufts each year we tried. At Crufts 2000 we gained 3rd as a team in the Intermediate Obedience test and 4th individual placed. And 5th in the Rebecca Pointer Trophy of points through out the year. And 2nd in the Rebecca Pointer Trophy of points through out the year. Rebecca Pointer Trophy of points through out the year. as there was not any teams that year. Luke also retired at Crufts 2003 as he had worked so hard for me over the years and he was 12 years old. Then at YKC summer camp 2003 my mum let me enter Luke in a Biathlon (Handling and Obedience) competition for a bit of fun. We had a great laugh competing in it but when the results came through me and my mum really did laugh as Luke had worked so hard that he had qualified for Crufts once again. So in February 2004 we took Luke to the vets to get him checked over to make sure he was fit and healthy to go to Crufts. The vet gave the all clear and we were off. And once again it wasa laugh working him but when the commentator called out the winner I wanted to cry as 1st place went to Amy Bennett and her Border Collie Luke. It was a dream come true to win the very competition that Luke had competed in. Luke is now definitely retired and happy sleeping on his bed all day long. Saturday 10th September 2005.Luke was a legend when I worked him and I am sorry to say that my mum and I had to have him put to sleep this morning. At 15 years old he has had a great life taking me to crufts so many times and winning so many rossette. I am going to miss him so much. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now you're with the angels in heaven and they will watch over you and take care of you. Luke you wont ever be forgotten - you were the first and best dog our family will ever have, no other dog will be as great as you. We will miss you with all our hearts. Sleep well love you always.
