If you are unfamiliar with Pernese dragons please see the entry on them in the Pernese dictionary. For those interested in the genetics between the three different types, please click here, for a brief overview of what can hatch depending on the type of the sire and dam. Also at the bottom of this page is a quick explanation of the different meanings of eye colors and a size chart.
Original Five
Gold: Originally the largest of the dragons, she is any shade of gold. As a queen, she has the power to order around most dragons and make them obey her. Few dragons can lie to a queen successfuly. A few, the more strong willed or crafty, can avoid this. Bronzes have the best luck but an angry queen is a queen that even the bronzes bow before. They are protective of their Weyr and "their" dragons, and very proud. During Flights no other queen can be near for there is the risk that a fight will start - especially if another queen is near Flight as well. They Fly about once a Turn during Pass times, even less during times between Passes. Clutches are about 10-40 eggs, up there during a Pass, much less otherwise. They Impress heterosexual women with leadership skills and reach maturity at two turns but may not reach full growth for another three months. It is currently unknown what mutation they would have if they had a parent threadscored with the canon mutation strain.
Bronze: The largest males of the original colors. They Impress mostly heterosexual men with strong leadership abilities. Their riders frequently have positions of rank, and these days the Bronze is almost as rare as the Gold because of how few clutches there are. They are usually arrogant, but also leaders, very rarely is a bronze indecisive or loses their head in a given situation. They can be a dark bronze that's nearly brown, to a green-bronze, to a bright gold-bronze or anything in between. They mature and are full sized at around a turn and nine months, and will try to Fly Emeralds rarely but will try for Golds down to Greens - a small one might try for a Topaz. It is currently unknown what mutation they would have if they had a parent threadscored with the canon mutation strain.
Brown: The midsized male, he is the power in the ranks. While he doesn't have the clear strength of the Bronze, or the agility and speed of a Blue, a Brown is the best choice for straight, stamina needing straight flight. Tricks and speed Flying take it out of him but in clear skies he will use minimum amount of stamina for the maximum amount of land. They can Fly Golds and anything smaller. They Impress males or homosexual females that have a steady center and who either are or have the ability to be in control of their emotions. They are mature and full sized at a turn and four months. It is currently unknown what mutation they would have if they had a parent threadscored with the canon mutation strain.
Blue: The smallest male of the original five colors, the Blue has less stamina then the other males, but is faster and quicker. He is an in between dragon - not the quickest, not the most agile, but when someone needs a quick mission that might take more than a few hours, he's better than the green - the greens tire too quickly, while the Blue can last longer. In a Threadfall they are good for guarding the power centers of a Wing. They Fly Ammolites and smaller. They Impress anything but heterosexual females, usually people with more friendly personalities, or those willing to follow at least. They are mature at a turn, but can take a couple of extra months to reach full growth. Blues born from a clutch with a parent threadscored with the canon mutation strain can breathe underwater and sense what weather is coming within the next day. They may be able to slightly effect the weather if they are very strong - mostly just preventing something for a slight amount of time, or maybe lessening weather affects for an hour or so.
Green: The smallest dragon of the original five, they are quick, agile, and very flighty. They aren't the best for long-term missions, but for a quick mission or something that needs to be done now Greens are best. They are the flirtiest of the dragons, and fly about every six sevendays during a Pass, less during Intervals. They get attached less to their mates than other dragons, but it's not impossible that a green will always have one male continuously catching her. They do not clutch. They Impress anything but heterosexual males, of any personality, and are mature and at full growth at one turn old. They Impress any personality but prefer something with a bit of fire in them - whether flirty or fighter, since that was, in the old days, what greens were known for. They were flirts - but they were also fighters. Greens born from a clutch with a parent threadscored with the canon mutation strain, they have electrokinesis
Beryls
Beryls mostly hatch out at High Reaches and the first true clutch of them hatched in Turn 2162, Month 8. All Beryls have to be joined from available dragons in the clutch charts of High Reaches.
Emerald: The great shining green queen has 12-45 eggs, and Impresses strong-willed straight or bisexual women that more prefer men. She can be any shade of green, and may include tints of any other Beryl color in her hide, but is most likely to be a dark, shining green color. Except when on a clutch, they are actually very gentle and docile, not at all like the prideful Golds. However, besides in Flight or guarding a Clutch, she also can emit waves of a calming aura - as she gets older she can control it, but when she is young she can do nothing to control it and often people find themselves unconsciously calming around her until she learns to reign it in. Her bonded and other bonded of Emeralds are immune to the effect. Should an Emerald ever die and leave Hers behind, that woman would still be immune. She reaches full size at around two turns and three months, and can reach sexual maturity anytime afterwards. She Flies about once every turn and a half during Pass times, less during Intervals.
Aquamarine: These males are even larger than the enormous Emeralds. They have incredible stamina, but they have such a thick frame that they cannot do many tricks at all. They are also, as if to make up for the Emeralds docility, violent in their tempers. They are very commanding and try to Impress heterosexual men or rarely homosexual women of a similar type. They are the opposite of the Emeralds in their power in that they have an unsettling and violence-inducing aura though they have better control of theirs even when they are young. They are also extremely protective of their young, odd in a dragon, and protective of anything they consider as belong to them. They Fly Citrines down to Greens. They reach full size at about two turns and three months, and sexual maturity around two and a half turns.
Heliodor: These are large males, smaller than a gold but larger than a bronze. Their frame can be called almost ethereal - they are slim, with large translucent wings and are unusually tranquil most of the time - or so they seem. They could be boiling beneath the surface but until they snap, most people never know. Outwardly calm but beneath they could be a variety of things- shy, arrogant, or actually have a tightly controlled but easily provoked temper. Their ability - a nightmare world. They can cast people into a world filled of nightmares. Or at least the people will think so - it's all an illusion, but the Heliodor dragons can put as many as three people into the same illusion and hold it for up to an hour. They can Fly Emeralds down to Greens, and a large one may attempt a Citrine, and Impress heterosexual or mostly heterosexual men and more rarely bi- or homosexual females, usually going for either the extremly quiet or extremly loud humans with strong will - not necessarily leadership, but definitely willpower. They reach full growth by two turns as well as maturing around the same time. Can only be born from a BerylxBeryl clutch.
Goshenite (White): These dragons are strange. They can be either gender - and either gender will Impress anyone of either gender. They don't discriminate, but do tend to Impress the more cheerful humans - perhaps to counter the fact that most of them are cheerful as well, and not the smartest of dragons - this might have to do with the fact they have smaller heads and shorter necks than most. In fact, their necks are easy to defend because of this and because of an extra thickness to their skin - they have to be oiled more often because of this but they don't feel the temperature changes as much as the other dragons - useful in the cold northern Weyr. Females fly about five times a turn after reaching maturity around a turn and a half old. Males reach maturity at the same time, but may not reach full growth for another couple of months. They clutch very rarely, with only a bit more than a dozen eggs at a time. Goshenites can Fly Golds and smaller. They have the ability to create a shield around themselves - or an area around their body a bit bigger than them.
Bixbite (Red): Bixbites, called by most who see them as Reds (though they do their best to persuade people not to) are females between the size of a blue and a brown, though closer to a brown. They Impress much like a brown except opposite. They Impress females or homosexual males. Reds are extremely fast on the ground, their legs set just a bit differently and a little shorter. In the air they have normal speed and stamina for their size, and sometimes are even a bit clumsier than normal, making their Flights short compared to what is expected from a dragon their size. These dragons think fast as well, and tend to get bored easily, with insatiable curiosity. They have a talent that fits oddly for their color - they are cryokinetics, they create and control ice. Females Fly about twice per Season, and do not Clutch. They are mature at about a turn and three months, reaching full size around that same time.
Topaz: This little female is the only dragon known that actually won't Impress it's own kind. It only Impresses males, most often bisexual males but will go for any kind. She's tiny, small, and at full growth at nine months, probably won't ever fit more than two people on her neck comfortably. They have normal builds, usually, though like any dragon this can vary. They can feel someone's desires - which wouldn't seem like much, but they can also give advice without that person knowing another voice is in their mind. They shield their thoughts in a way - they couldn't say how they do it, but they do. Theirs always knows, of course, and knows when their dragon is influencing someone, and who it is. They do not clutch, and Fly about once every four sevendays once they mature, and only the fastest of dragons catches them since while they don't have the stamina, they have more agility and speed than most. They are also the only Beryl dragons that aren't really a shade of Beryl, yet appear in the clutch just the same, though in very small numbers. They are shiny brown-gold or brown yellow with a clear tint.
Kahrain Types
Kahrain Types are, as is obvious from the name, mostly only born in Kahrain and first originated from that Weyr. These dragons must be joined from clutch charts and have only been alive since Month 10 of Turn 3162.
Citrine: This queen Impresses heterosexual females or homosexual males with very strong leadership abilities. She has an incredibly slim build, allowing her greater speed than expected of a dragon her size. She is almost streamlined for speed, however, she doesn't have as much stamina as one would expect. Not that she has no stamina, and she has enough for a good sized Flight, but an Emerald and the two closest males in size could probably fly longer than her. When it comes to fancy Flying, however, she can twist and trick better than any other large dragon. In personality, citrines tend to be just as in control as other queens, and often times more aggressive and willing to get physical with the lower ranks. She can make and manipulate light. They reach sexual maturity at a two turns and a half or sometime after, but may not reach full growth up to three full turns. Despite being the larger queen, she has the same amount of eggs as an Emerald, 12-45, due to her slim build. She Flies about once every couple of Turns.
Purple: These males Impresses boys with strong leadership abilities. Their tail is just a little longer than normal, making one think there is nothing different about them until you notice that besides their long tail, which is oddly pointed and strong, they are perfectly proportioned. Their wings are just the right size for their body, their necks not too long or too short, they are perfect looking. Their personalities tend to vary, and the only one personality trait that stands out is that most are insanely stubborn. Their power is to sense what someone's mutation is and the strengths and weaknesses. They fly Citrines down to Cyans. They reach maturity and physical growth around two and a half turns and come in any shade of purple imaginable, sometimes with hints of red or blue as well.
Ammolite: Only from a KahrainxKahrain breeding. A multi-colored queen between the size of a Brown and bronze, she resembles a muscular Brown in body-type, broad and stocky but with excellent stamina, and is incredibly strong for her size. She is no more than three colors at a time, with a base color of either red, green, or blue and with no more than three colors at a time on her, though the secondaries may be almost any color, always with a metallic sheen. She can turn herself and anything she is touching invisible. In personality they are sociable, usually flirty, and courageous fighters to the core - many times stupidly courageous. They Impress to heterosexual females or bisexual and homosexual boys, usually also courageous ones - stubborn, hardheaded, and impulsive can work just as well. They mature at a turn and a half, Fly once a turn, and have 5-30 eggs. It is also possible for them to chew firestone.
Cream: These males are slightly bigger than a brown, but thinner, with longer wings meant for speed, but not very wide (or high) wings to catch the air, using up more stamina than a brown, but great sprinting speed and lifting power. They Impress males and only males, usually ones with good people skills but not necessarily good leadership skills or strong will power. They are usually quite friendly themselves, with tendencies towards mischief and trick making. They have Flit Memory - the ability to remember things from their ancestor's pasts. They Fly very rarely Golds, but always try for anything smaller. Full size is reached around a turn and four months, but sexual maturity not until a turn and a half at least.
Cyan: These females Impress females or homosexual males, and do not clutch. Often those that they Impress are clever, either able to hide things well or twist words around. They don't usually Impress those who are all about brute strength, whether blunt words or blunt fists. Between the size of a blue and a cream, they have powerful, thick hindlegs, but weaker front legs, making it hard for them to make killing blows with their front legs in a hunt. On the other hand they have wide wings. Not long wings - wide wings, from shoulders to hindquarters. Their wings seem to take up more than three fourths of their body length, the joints extending for the whole space between their sets of legs. Another way to think of it is they have high wings if you call the shoulder to hindquarters height instead of width. Anything they say will be believed, unless it is something that is already established fact that is obvious to see, like grass is green. But other things, like gravity or science things that are talked about but you can't see, or things about people - then they'll always be believed. Their bonded is immune to this power. They are mature at about a turn and three months, reaching the limits of their physical growth around the same time.
Copper: Similarly sized to a green, these males Impress anything but heterosexual males, oddly enough. They are pyrokinetic in nature, meaning they can create and control fire. Perhaps it is because of this destructive ability that they are the most fragile of dragons and are also the lightest. They almost constantly look thin because of their smaller bone size, but their hide color tells clearly if they are healthy or not. They have long skinny legs, without much thrusting power. But though their wings look normal sized, they are the only part that doesn't have thinner bones, and they have strong muscles in their wings, giving them enough lift - and once in the air, they are fast, faster than it would seem from their size because of their fragile, lightweight bodies. They Fly anything smaller than them, mainly the Greens and Topazes, usually being content with that, and often being quieter dragons. Very rarely they will Fly a small Cyan. They are mature at a turn, but may take up to three more months with their physical growth.
Silver: This male is between the size of a Topaz and a Green. They Impress anyone of any gender, sexuality, or personality. They have a sturdy build that is not the best for speed, but they also have very flexible joints, meaning they are incredibly agile despite their sturdy looking build and good stamina for their size. They are Healers, and the only thing all seem to have in common personality wise is that they all want to Heal, especially large injuries, and being birthed in a violent Hatching can quickly drain them as they try to heal injuries while looking for Theirs. They are full grown at about ten months and mature by eleven. Some might try for Cyans and anything smaller they will definitely try to Fly.
