When Jax was called to his ailing father's bedside, he learned that his father had heavily relied upon the Dead Man's Hand, and he was missing four of the cards. Jax immediately went on a mission to find the missing cards. This is when he met Sam McCall, who was also in search of the cards.
Jax soon learned that Sam's great grandfather killed Bill Hickock while he was holding the Dead Man's Hand. While attempting to get a hold of the cards, Sam and Jax were stranded on an island where they apprehended two surfers who attacked Sam. Jax learned that they were looking for the cards for someone in Port Charles. It was then revealed that AJ Quartermaine had the four cards in his possession but needed the last one. Jax returned to Port Charles where Sam showed up at his hotel dressed as a maid.
AJ soon caught on to Jax and Sam and he hired Coleman to find out what they were up to. Jax told AJ that he and Sam were dating. In an attempt to make Sam more ladylike he tried to give her a makeover. Ultimately Sam got all five pieces to the Dead Man's Hand, but she would not hold onto them for long.
Luke stole the cards from Sam and arrived at the Halloween Ball dressed as a magician. At the auction Luke sold the cards to Jax. But a person in disguise stole the cards. The person turned out to be Chase, an old boyfriend of Sam's. Chase offered her the cards if she would spend one more night with him, but Sam flatly refused. She came up with a plan to pretend to sleep with him and then steal the cards at the last minute. But at the last minute, Jax broke into the room and carried her out.
Eventually Dillon (who was in possession of the cards) finally gave them to Jax, who wanted to get them to his dying father, but Sam wanted to stay and test the cards luck at a casino. So she sabotaged Jax's cards so he couldn't leave. Jax ended up winning Sam a boat, the Haunted Star, and then they made love for the first time. Unfortunately by the time Jax got to his father, he was too late. Sam was racked with guilt because it was her fault they didn't get the lucky cards to save Jax's father's life. When Jax discovered Sam sabotaged his car, he pushed Sam away.
Luke and Sam had a dispute over who owned the Haunted Star, and eventually they agreed to joint ownership of the casino that Luke wanted to turn the boat into. Jax and Sam vowed revenge against each other, but they both actually had strong romantic feelings for each other.
Sam soon found herself wrapped up with another man. When Sonny Corinthos was on the run from trying to kill Lorenzo Alcazar, he took Sam hostage and forced her to drive away from the crime scene. Ultimately Sonny let Sam go, but they did make an immediate connection bonding while trapped in the car.
Off of a break up with Jax, and Sonny angry thinking his wife Carly was cheating on him, ran into each other and ended up having passionate sex. Although their relationship started out as purely physical, both Sam and Sonny could not help their growing feelings for each other. And although Sam did make love to Jax during the Port Charles Hotel fire, she was falling in love with Sonny.
Sam had a new surprise, that she was pregnant. To protect Sonny and Carly's family, Jason agreed to claim the baby as his own. But Sonny finally could no longer keep the secret from Carly and the truth came out that Sonny is the father of Sam's baby.
Sam had a new secret, that she was involved with the murder of her mother in a fire years ago. She covered up for her mentally challenged brother, Danny.
Unfortunately Sam's pregnancy ends unexpectedly, but her unborn baby saves another one of Sonny's children, Kristina. Kristina was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and Sam's child was the only donor match. Her stem cells saved Kristina.
As Sam deals with the lose of her child, she becomes closer to Jason. He asks her several times to move in with him and when she does, their relationship grew stronger. Jason and Sam attend Emily and Nikolas's wedding. Sam drinks a little too much and shares a kiss with Jason.
After a bumpy start, Sam and Jason are again living together. Sam and Jason become foster parents of sorts by agreeing to care for a baby that Bridget, one of Courtney's foundation kids, has given them. Jason isn't so sure at first but then supports Sam and the baby. Jason even proposes to Sam. He loves her and wants to be with her. Sam happily accepts. Bridget decides she wants her baby back. To avoid a serious court battle, Jason decides it would be best for baby Hope to be raised by Bridget and her grandmother. Sam tearfully returns Hope to Bridget, but makes it clear to Jason she'd never forgive him for this.
Sam spins out of control as it looks like she kidnapped Kristina. But when it come out that Faith has not only kidnapped Kristina, but Michael and Morgan as well, Jason and Sam team up to find the kids. Their investigation takes them to Louisiana where after a shootout with Faith, they find Kristina and Morgan. Michael is still missing. Jason and Sam start looking into Faith's activities and find out she had something going in the Caribbean. But before they can go any further, Faith is shot and killed. Jason and Sonny track down the sniper and find a Polaroid of Michael, dead.
Jason refuses to believe that Michael is really dead. He continues to search for clues and with the help of Sam, they figure out that Michael is indeed alive. They get a lead from Rachel that takes them to the very much alive AJ Quartermaine's Bahamian home. They just miss AJ and Michael. Jason and Sam rush back to Port Charles (after a brief stop in Sienna, Italy) and discover that AJ is in town with Michael. With Skye's help, they track AJ down. Jason and AJ engage in a fight that sent them both over the staircase railings at the Quartermaine estate.
Michael has witnessed so much that he became withdrawn but Sam is able to reach out to him. When the truth about AJ's murder came out, it's Sam that takes care of Michael and set up therapy sessions with Dr. Thomas, a local psychiatrist.
Jason and Sam are determined now more than ever to start a family but the doctor warns Sam that it would be another six months before she's ready to conceive. Jason loves Sam more than anything and will wait until she's ready. They continue to focus on Michael's mental health and helping him deal with his trauma.
Sam continues to take Michael to see Dr. Thomas, but the good doctor is developing an unhealthy attraction to Sam. Sam finds out that Dr. Thomas also treated Jason when he has his accident years ago. Dr. Thomas soon figures out what Michael's secret is (that he was the one that murdered AJ). Sam makes it clear that Dr. Thomas can never tell anyone but he assures Sam that he wouldn't violate doctor/patient confidentiality.
A hurricane hits Port Charles. Jason, Sam, Michael and Morgan are staying at Sonny's house when Dr. Thomas shows up. He's dropping off Michael school bag, but then ends up having to stay because of the storm.
During the hurricane, Dr. Thomas had a talk with Jason and told him that his own attitude toward therapy was affecting Michael's progress. Jason asked Sam if she felt he was holding Michael back from getting better. Sam assured Jason that no matter what, he loved Michael and would only do what was best for him.
To pass the time, Sam challenged Jason to a game of dominoes in hopes of winning a night of passion. The tequila started flowing and very quickly, Sam was drunk. She passed out in Jason's arm. Jason went to check on Michael when he had a nightmare. Dr. Thomas checked in on Sam, leaning in closely to her. Jason and Michael returned and Dr. Thomas quickly covered that he was making sure Sam was okay. Dr. Thomas and Michael went back upstairs for an impromptu session. Michael was able to snag Dr. Thomas's PDA and saw that he had a meeting that night at PCPD.
When Jason went to check on Michael, Michael showed Jason the appointment. Jason returned downstairs to find that Dr. Thomas was gone. Jason told Sam about Michael's discovery and took off to find Dr. Thomas before he turned Michael in for AJ's murder. Dr. Thomas was surprised when Jason showed up at this office. Mac arrived at Dr. Thomas's office. Jason, hidden, listened to Dr. Thomas refuse to give Mac evidence against another patient. Once Mac left, Dr. Thomas made it clear that he wanted Jason to stay away from Michael's sessions. Jason soon learned that Michael's file was stolen and Dr. Thomas suspected Alan took it. Jason confronted Alan but realized someone else stole the file.
Michael was visiting with Carly when Jason showed up and explained Durant took the file. Two police officers arrived to take Michael in and Jason pulled his gun on them. Sam surprised all with a shotgun and she, Jason, and Michael took off. Jason, Sam and Michael finally ended up in the Wyndemere caves, thanks to Emily. Sonny told Jason to get himself, Sam, & Michael out of town. Carly said goodbye to her son. Jason, Sam, and Michael escaped just as the police arrived and were off to the Caribbean.
Michael got a surprise when he discovered Jodie was on board the ship. Jodie told him that she was there the night AJ was murdered and knew Michael didn't kill him. Michael went to Jason and Sam and told them Jodie was on board. Jason and Sam soon discovered that Jodie was Michael's imaginary friend. Sam was arrested when she went on land to get supplies. When Michael figured out that Jason couldn't see Jodie, Michael freaked out. Jason called Dr. Thomas for advice and he told them they had to get back to PC now for Michael's sake. While Jason spoke to Dr. Thomas, he had a memory from his own accident and through Dr. Thomas's memory, it was revealed that AJ was in cahoots with Thomas to end Jason's life
Once Jason told Sonny about Michael's imaginary friend, Sonny made a deal with Durant to bring Jason and Michael home. Durant double-crossed everyone and had Jason and Michael arrested.

In 1991, Jason came home from boarding school and quickly learned to contend with his big half-brother, A.J., by cutting him a lot of slack. A year later, Jason found a kindred spirit in fellow high school junior Karen Wexler, whose mother, Rhonda, was, like A.J., an alcoholic.
So preoccupied with Karen was Jason, in fact, that he completely ignored underclassman Robin Scorpio, who harbored a big crush on him. He had more important things to worry about - like Karen's obvious chemistry with her Kelly's co-worker, Jagger Cates. Even though Karen agreed to go steady with Jason and even though they were crowned the king and queen of the Valentine's Day dance, she couldn't deny her attraction to Jagger, and that very night, she left the dance with him, breaking Jason's heart.
By 1995, Jason had found new love with pert Keesha Ward. On spring break, the couple didn't head to the beach but to Paris, where they admitted that they both were virgins. They didn't come home that way.
A year later, a single event changed the course of Jason's life - and in fact, Jason himself - forever. Intent on stopping A.J. from driving drunk, Jason got into a car with his brother. The accident that followed left Jason with permanent brain damage and no memory whatsoever of his family or of Keesha.
Jason couldn't stand the way people looked at him after the accident, always hoping to see some glint of recognition in his eyes. He pushed both his relatives and Keesha away, went to work for mobster Sonny Corinthos and changed his name to Jason Morgan. His birthday, he would declare, wasn't the day he was born but the day of the accident.
The one person who was able to get through to Jason was his old high school classmate, Robin. She was patient with him and had no expectations. She just accepted him for who he was - not for who he used to be. What began as a friendship turned into a deep and abiding love.
But there was a complication: All the while Jason was falling for Robin, he was sleeping with scheming Carly Roberts. When he ended their affair, she threatened to blab to Robin. But Carly was all talk; she was just hurt that Jason didn't want her.
Because of Robin's HIV-positive status, when she and Jason consummated their love, they had to do so very carefully. Beforehand, they spoke frankly about their fears and their desire, and although their lovemaking may not have been the same as other couples', it was just as intense and certainly more meaningful. Jason and Robin's romance was threatened when Carly's manipulations ripped them apart.
Jason became a father unexpectedly when Carly broke up with Tony and claimed that Jason was the father of her child. Carly claimed that she had been having an affair with Jason and he went along with Carly's lie. Carly told Jason the truth about Bobbie being her mother and her night of passion with AJ and how AJ could be the father of the baby.
After Carly gave birth to her son, Jason took the child into his care when she left town suffering from post-partum depression. Even though Tony's dream of becoming a father came to an end when the paternity test proved that he was not the father of Carly's baby, Tony swore to get even with Jason and Carly.
AJ incorrectly concluded from the test results that Jason was the baby's father. However, that did not stop Edward, Alan, AJ and Tony to try and take Carly's baby from Jason when he brought him to the Quartermaine mansion for Emily's birthday. Their plan failed miserably and the family lost both Jason and Michael for good. Justus became disgusted with the Quartermaines and ELQ life and agreed to be Jason's legal counsel.
Jason and Robin were back together and Jason wanted to guarantee that Robin and Michael would always be safe. To that end, Jason met with his rival, Moreno, and announced his resignation from the organization. Jason went to work as a mechanic and he and Robin moved into Brenda's vacant cottage with Michael.
Robin and Jason were very much in love. One day, Jason returned to the garage and was shocked to find AJ there alone with Michael. Jason was furious and couldn't accept the fact that Robin had no choice but to leave Michael with AJ. Jason felt betrayed and a rift developed between him and Robin. Jason and Robin quickly reconciled, but Robin was concerned over Jason's deep attachment to Michael. Robin also continued to worry about what the future would hold once Carly was released from Ferncliff and hated the fact that her and Jason's lives revolved around Carly.
Jason proved to Carly that he could still make things happen even after leaving the organization when he arranged for her release from Ferncliff. Carly moved into the cottage with Jason, Michael and Robin and secretly planned on a future of her own with Jason.
By this time, however, mob violence was starting to rear its ugly head in Port Charles again and Mac was seriously wounded in a shootout at the Outback. Carly urged Jason to return to the organization, but he remained hesitant to do so.
Robin was thrilled when Sonny returned to Port Charles as she hoped he would be able to help her with Carly, who continued to use Michael to manipulate Jason. Robin reached her breaking point when Jason announced that he was going to move into the brownstone with Carly and Michael in order to solve everyone's problems. Robin was stunned by Jason's "solution" and they broke up. Thinking she was protecting Jason from future pain at the hands of Carly, Robin did the unthinkable. Robin went to AJ and told him the truth - AJ, not Jason, was Michael's biological father. Jason was furious over Robin's betrayal and made it clear he would never forgive her.
AJ shocked the Quartermaines with the news about Michael and battle lines were quickly drawn. Jason assured Carly that no one would take Michael away from him and they prepared to do battle with the Quartermaines.
Jason and Carly planned to leave Port Charles and go on the run with Michael. Jason left town with Michael and Carly planned on joining them later. Carly, however, changed her mind and didn't rendezvous with Jason as planned. Instead, Carly went to the Quartermaine mansion and said that Jason had kidnapped Michael. Carly started spinning a tale of lies and was able to convince the Quartermaines that she was on their side. Carly even moved into the mansion!
Sonny was furious over what Carly had done to Jason and he told Jason about Carly's betrayal. Sonny was then incredulous when Jason defended Carly and decided to return to Port Charles with Michael. Alone with Jason, Carly explained herself and told Jason of her latest plan. Carly planned on winning AJ over to her side and then marrying him. Carly explained that she would then divorce AJ and return to Jason with Michael. Jason didn't think Carly's plan would work, but he went along with it anyway. Alexis agreed to represent Jason in his custody battle against the Quartermaines.
Sonny and Jason were devastated to learn that their coffee warehouse had burned to the ground and they suspected Moreno was behind the fire. Jason then received even more bad news when he was forced to take Michael to the Quartermaine mansion to live. Jason also lost visitation rights to Michael.
After teaming up to prove that Hannah Scott was actually an undercover agent for the FBI, Jason and Carly grew closer while watching the FBI raid Moreno's warehouse. Soon thereafter, Jason and Carly shared a kiss and Carly was certain she and Jason could have a future together. A short time later, Carly misinterpreted a close moment between Jason and Liz. Carly turned to Sonny and their mutual pain and anger lead to an outburst of passion and they made love. At this same time, Jason filled in for Sonny at a meeting with Moreno and ended up getting shot.
After being shot by Moreno, Jason returned to Sonny's penthouse and was stunned to discover that Carly and Sonny had slept together. Jason turned his back on Sonny and Carly and collapsed outside in the snow. Liz came to Jason's aid and took him to her studio. Jason refused to let Liz contact either the police or Sonny, but Liz took matters into her own hands and arranged for Bobbie to treat Jason's wound. Liz convinced Jason to stay at her studio with her and he eventually made a full recovery. In the process, Liz and Jason became very close friends.
Carly was devastated by Jason's rejection, but was determined to make him love her again. Carly was also determined to keep custody of Michael and end her marriage to AJ, but AJ made it clear that neither Carly nor Michael would be going anywhere. Fearing for her safety, Jason distanced himself from Liz. A short time later, Jason said goodbye to Sonny, Emily, Monica and Lila and headed out of town.
Although Jason didn't return to Port Charles, he did come to Carly's rescue once again. Jason phoned Sonny and told him that AJ had been responsible for hiring an arsonist to burn down their coffee warehouse. Armed with this information, Sonny forced AJ to relinquish all rights to Michael and give Carly a divorce.
Several months later, Jason returned to Port Charles.
Jason offered Sonny an alternative to marrying Carly and said he would take her and Michael out of the country. Jason admitted to Sonny that he only loved Carly as a friend, but said he would do whatever Sonny wanted. Carly, who truly did have feelings for Sonny, realized she couldn't run away with Jason. Carly then agreed to marry Sonny, who promised they would try to make a happy home together. The Justice of the Peace arrived at Sonny's penthouse, but Carly got a case of cold feet. Jason spoke to Carly but Sonny misinterpreted their conversation and thought Carly still loved Jason. Carly and Sonny were then married as planned and Sonny was thrown when Jason explained that Sonny was the man Carly loved.
