On January 7, 1840 John married Mariah Jodet Wait in Levi’s home. Mariah was born on August 27, 1815 to Asa Wait and Lydia Kendall. John C. and Levi married sisters. John had land next to Levi’s, but left with his father in 1847 to move to Texas. He was very sick that fall in Texas, and their baby daughter, named Mary, died that December. He farmed in Texas, and during the Civil War he helped to make gunpowder for the South. Mariah died on March 19, 1864 in Travis County, Texas. She is buried in the Bratton Cemetery. Their daughter, Fidelia Frances married John King in Travis County, TX and they remained in Texas. In 1870, John returned to Ohio for a visit, and on Feb. 14, 1871, he was married to Angelina Brouse, who was the widow of Andrew Brouse of Sugar Grove, OH. John farmed on his wife’s farm until he died. He visited the Texas people once and the Ohio people once. William Asa, Levi’s son also visited John C. once. He died on May 4, 1906 in Sugar Grove, Scioto Co., OH.
