Charles, Jr. died on June 5, 1972 after a short illness and was buried at the Lampasas Cemetery after memorial services which were held at the First United Methodist Church in Lampasas, Texas. Tressie died on March 29, 1992.

Charles Wykes

LAMPASAS – Charles H. Wykes, 72, Oakalla, died Monday night in a Burnet hospital after a short illness.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at first United Methodist Church of Lampasas, the Rev. Auburn Neely and the Rev. Ben H. Bohmfalk officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

He was boorn Jan. 23, 1900, in Oakalla, and had lived there all his life. He was a member o the First United Methodist Church of Lampasas, Woodmen of the World and Cattlemen’s Association.

He married Tressie Meharg July 17, 1938, in Gainesville.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dudley Allen Wykes of Denton and Roger Dale Wykes of Oakalla; two daughters, Mrs. Janie Ruth Vance of Premont and Miss Reba Marie Wykes of Oakalla; three sisters, Mrs. Will J. Moore of Lampasas, Mrs. Fred Juby of Briggs and Mrs. J. Oscar Roark of Arlington; a brother, Edward Wykes of Hart; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be W. C. Chamberlain, John Ernest, W. H. Taylor, E. Babe Smith, Fooyd Blair and J. W. Williams.

Briggs-Gamel Funeral home of Lampasas is in charge of arrangements.

LAMPASAS – Services for Charles H. Wykes, 72, of Oakalla, will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist church in Lampasas. Rev. Auburn Neely of Burnet and Rev. Ben H. Bohmfalk of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of the Briggs-Gamel Funeral Home.

Wykes was a farmer and rancher and a lifelong resident of the Oakalla community. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Cattlemen’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Tressie Wykes of Oakalla; two sons, Dudley Allen Wykes of Denton and Roger Dale Wykes of Oakalla; two daughters, Mrs. Janie Ruth vance of Premont and Miss Reba Marie Wykes of Oakalla; three sisters, Mrs. Will J. Moore of Lampasas, Mrs. Fred Juby of Briggs and Mrs. J. Oscar Roark of Harlingen; one brother, Edward Wykes of Hart and three grandchildren.
