Wycombe Phoenix Ski Club

After the fire

After the dreadful fire at Wycombe Summit Ski Centre, which burnt down the alpine lodge, the club members were hopeful that it would not be long before the centre opened again. However, repeated delays have meant that the owners, SD Leisure, have decided to apply for planning permission to build a new Snowdome along-side the 300m artificial slope. This means that the centre will not re-open for many months. Most recent plans are September 2009.

Several of the members have got together and decided that it is time to reform the club since they have done so well in the past and friendship between many of the racers is too valuable to lose.

Hence the formation of the Wycombe Phoenix Ski Club.

Wycombe Phoenix Ski Club exists to further the ambitions of skiers, wishing to develop their racing skills, for both snow and artificial surfaces. The skiers are trained by a dedicated team of coaches many of whom have done or still do race at top level in the country. This ensures the Wycombe skiers continue to development using the most up to date coaching methods.

During the summer season many skiers will compete in regional and Snowsport England organised artificial slope races. A calendar for these events can be found on various websites, including www.britski.org

In the autumn and winter the club has continued the training on dry slope at Hemel, and many of the club members have been away on organised training camps in Europe. Wycombe Phoenix skiers will compete with the best when they meet in the UK and abroad at each of the national championships.
